I recently bought a new laptop and have noticed that even when it's shut down it still shows internet bandwidth use. Example, I reset the little "estimated usage" thing before shutting it down last night and this morning it says 380mb of data used. Is this some sort of a windows 8 bug or should I be worried?

Is my computer possessed?

Actually turned off using the 'shut down' feature. I also disabled the 'quick start' thing. It's a laptop though so I don't know if it is fully 100% powered down. I've also ran Malwarebytes Rootkit check, AVG, Malwarebytes, nothing is coming up but then I also had a hacked computer years ago that never showed anything either so I'm still paranoid.Comment

Could it possibly be running some auto updates before shutdown? So when you say shutdown and reset your counter to zero, it updates before shutting down. Maybe maybe? Next time disconnect your network cnx completely, then zero your counter, then shut it down. In the morning turn it on again and see if it tries to update Windows or whatever program is running. If that doesn't work, then yes, it's possessed.Comment

I would be worried that it had windows 8 and I would remove it and put on windows 7 pro because I HATE what they did to poor little windows...7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

In this case, you COULD hit F8 at boot, and use last known good, then do a "chkdsk /f" as Administrator (or after disabling UAC w/out running as Admin, I think it's still there)...
Boot loops actually happen more often than you would think they should, especially on Win 8 boxes. (HOWEVER on Win 8 Boxes, I beieve that you can factory the box much easier, even w/out an OEM restore partition, if I recall correctly. I KNOW you can on WinOS[u]X, but unaware if it works in safe mode, or new equiv.)
Boot to Windows DVD, repair. If that doesn't fix it a clean install is always good too, maybe with Win7...
Every other version of Windows is usually like a bad idea: Me, XP64bit, Vista, 8, (7ate9, so...) 10?
