iphones seem more sandboxed. You can do more with android without 'jailbreaking' (rooting for android speak) your phone and if you do it; the vendor that made the phone probably doesn't care. Also seems to be some hackery stuff available I don't think iPhones have (like scripting programs...).

Also; androids seem to have a long life cycle. I keep buying used G2 android phones for $50 to replace those I break... still works with nav, voice recognition, hulu, netflix, pandora, et cetera.... no real loss in not upgrading...

    ps
you could buy one of those $50 g2s on ebay and drop your t mob sim card in it and it should just work. No call to support needed...

        Stallman on Ubuntu: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/ubuntu-spyware.html

I have used many different distros, and Ubuntu is almost as bloated as Windows. As a daily Slackware user, I am not fond of *uuntu either, as it works on fewer machines than Slackware does. That probably just carries over to phones for me...

        "/RANT"
Do you know any who doesn't plug their real name into their Applecare, iTunes (needed because of purchases), iCloud etc account? Track track track, however:

No need use your real name w/Playstore cards OR your Android account... just another monkey-wrench we have to jam the N-S-A gears.

I have actually been waiting for more open options than Android, and have come across Sailfish, FirefoxOS, and Open WebOS.

W/out CDMA-style lockdown ("call to swap only authorized phones in your account" VZW, BOOST, Virgin Mobile, etc) of what phones you can use on a network you really can't beat T-Mobile that doesn't care what phone you use as long as it is not on their stolen/warrantied phone list ("bad imei/esn"). Hell, my son was using an unlocked AT&T phone w/T-mobile SIM (although only 2G, this way, on that phone anyway).

        1) How many open source options to iPhruity-device users have that is even comparable to Cyanogen?
        Answer: None.

        2) Can YOU kick Androids off of public WiFi?
Answer: Androids can disassociate others from WiFi, based on MAC (think only iPhones/Apple devices).

        3) iPhone is #1 with rainbow-fans for one reason:

(Although I don't care what other people do, quit pushing rainbow-agenda through phones, and computers. )

        4) Basically one Interface for Windows phones and iPhones?
Answer: Android can use MANY, any one you want, most of them are free too.

        5) Better sideloading?
        Answer: Android

        6) Applications?
Answer: cheaper, or FREE in most cases on an Android for the same app iTunes charges for.

        7) Development?
Answer: AFAIK, unless something has changed, I understand Apple: YEARLY fee, Android: one-time fee.
Which is why Android Dev's can offer more apps for free.

Apparently since Sailfish servers are not located in the US, they are not required to report anything to the N-S-A.
        Nice.

Apple is ALWAYS trying to play catch-up with features Android has already offered for YEARS...

Android. I just ordered a One Plus One. I had never heard of it, but it's flagship phone spec hardware for 300 bucks (no tax, straight from China I think). Looks pretty cool. It's about 10 months old so it's practically a generation behind but the specs are still very good for the price. With similar smart phones still retailing for 600+

Thank you for your thoughtful post, but are you aware that consumer purchasers of phones don't care about a single one of the issues you mentioned?

i think they just stopped requiring invites as they are prepping for the one plus two.

op, it depends what you want your phone to do. iphones are overall a simpler device but they dont do anything exceptionally well.

android has a bigger learning curve but has a plethora of different options depending on what your interested in using it for and what flavor of android best works for you.

Yeah probably. Actually it has been open to anyone for a while on tuesdays only. Getting a one plus one for myself because my nexus 5 is on the fritz.

Maybe by the time my wife's nexus dies the one plus 2 will be ready.

I am sure purchasers of applications care about having the same application for cheaper, or even free on a phone <1/3 the price of an iPhone w/ similar (yet not current, in the case of iPhones) features/specs.

Customizeability is an issue that is addressed on CalGuns a lot, not to mention features and so is the ability to go "featureless".

The ones on CalGuns reading this thread now have more info, and since enlightened, may make a more informed decision...
                      Just raising awareness.

Well, you'll still reap the rewards of cheaper (if not free equiv.) applications, lower phone price than the newest iPhone, if you never use the default browser or chrome then your internet searches don't have to be tied to your account (not to mention if you blow-out the browser cache or uninstall/reinstall browser, you can virtually start over with cookies/browser tracking... think naked browser).

You seem like someone that might want to do a little more with your phone than the average consumer.

The point is; an android is easier to use as a mini computer you carry around than just a phone.
