recommend ad blocker for android mobile

for a galaxy S4. can't seem to find a decent one in play store. internet research says adaway but those were in early 2014, and i can't find that in playstore.

avast shows i don't have anything yet but sometimes those pop-ups/redirects are pretty bad on mobile. i use adblock and adblock plus on desktop pc and it works fine. in my tablets I don't get major redirects either using the same browser icon in lollipop (and kk previously).

weird how a mobile phone seems to more vulnerable that the page actually changes and i have to keep pressing the back arrow at the bottom of phone and not "ok" or "cancel" on the browser to trigger a download/install.

Don't use Chrome, as Chrome passes-through (and remembers, in the case of my work and home rigs) your gmail (play store/default) credentials, and has auto-synced my bookmarks that shouldn't have been work bookmarks, by default.

I have never tried, but can you use ad-blocker add-ins on Firefox Mobile for Android?
    Just a thought...

I usually use Naked Browser, but am trying out Firefox for Android on most of my larger screen and faster CPU devices recently. Neither of the seem to auto-passthrough default credentials (for tracking your browsing, like default Android browsers that come pre-installed, and non-removable).

Stay off "those sites" with one of the major browsers?

There is adblock plus but you have to download it from their website. A year or two ago Google axed all the ad blockers from the play store. I forget the real reason, but I'm going to go with their bread and butter are ads.

Adaway requires root access. If you have root, then it's on xda, Google removed it from their play store as it "violates" some rule.

ahhh. that's why i can't find it. i still have to root again since odin won't do it and i have to do a sideload (right term) and update via phone's clockworkmod.

i didn't think of looking at xda since i figure it'll be in google play.

Not really an AD blocker, but it could help. I like it.

I downloaded theAdblocker Plus to my Acer android tablet, works well, no hiccups.
Had to go into settings and click the 3rd party download trustworthy block or whatever its called.
Did have to download from the adblocker site.

Unless your phone is rooted add blockers don't really work.

AdAway works great but you need to be rooted.
The "hosts" file that needs to be modified is read only so you need root.

Did I mention, you need root??

The YouTube ads were the most insufferable for me. They've just progressively gotten worse over the years to a point where I'm sick of it.

I downloaded xposed installer with the YouTube adaway plug-in. Man, only thing I've found that completely knocks all YouTube ads dead. The majority of YouTube videos I watch are on mobile/android app and nothing else stopped them.

Every so often YouTube updates and ads come back, but I have to check on the plug in and update it, reboot and they're gone again.

Have to be rooted of course.

rooting is something i need to re-do. i had it before but i want to put a tmobile rom on it. so i have to be at a particular version first -> side load a lower version -> root -> sideload an upgrade version. then from there i can do a tmobile rom switch. the bootlocker thing is a pita on att phones.

last i tried to root by using odin, some things weren't working well hence xda forum thread said sideload the downgrade instead.

so looks like i need to get back into finishing that to at least get root while i'm on the att rom so far.
