    Opening up a Shooting Range

Just wondering if any of you guys know, a ballpark figure on the cost of opening up a gun range? Do you think its difficult to obtain the permits to open it? Just an idea. Thanks a lot of your input.

The National Rifle Association has about all the information you would need. They have answers to questions you haven't thought of yet...

are we talking indoor or outdoor?
I suspect outdoor is going to be a lot tougher due to environmental issues.

$250,000 but more info would help.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

An indoor range would run more in the $1MM dollar range when stocked with ammo and all the things needed. You also need some working capital in the bank when you open.

A modern bullet trap with a target system and the HVAC with the now required HEPA filtration on the exhaust system will eat up $250K easily.

Right now, NRA is offering financial assistance for those who are contemplating doing just that.

I'd call them and ask for some info straight from them.

Not going to happen in CA with the newest lateste tactic of using lead as a toxic substance that they will require you to have zero of it thus driving the costs up to where it is just not practical.

What is the newest indoor range that has opened in LA or OC? I can't remember one sine early 1990's. And some have closed.

The newest one in my area was Shooter's Paradise in Simi Valley, unfortunately they did close that location a few years ago. It was a shame since it was a nice facility, and I think they had 25 yards there. The truth is that an indoor facility is very expensive all across the board and therefore hard to make money with. The outdoor range would be far better in this regard but you then have the environmental problems to deal with. In either case you really would have to already own the property as I think that would be the first hurdle to clear.

I think the real expense here would be the land though...with the market what it is you might be on to something.

My real problem with ranges around here is that you can't holster draw and I don't know of any that have tactical lanes that allow movement and such. Probably some laws against it knowing PRK.
Nothing to see here. . . Move along.

There is a new outdoor range up in my neck of the woods, Paradise Rod & Gun Club. They worked with the NRA so they may be able to offer some useful advice.

Bass Pro in Ranch Cucamunga is the newest indoor range that I can think of. Yes, it does exists, I've been inside it.
