My pal waited till he found a lefty Browning A-Bolt in .375 H&H.
It was very much worth the time and effort because it is his favorite gun. He did the same for his 30-06. It is a much easier and natural way to shoot for him. No need for contortions etc to operate the bolt and hence faster follow up shots if needed.

Again, it's weird for me since all my other bolt actions are RH actions and I have many more years of experience with them. I shoot LHed and work the action with my RH while my LH stays in place.
I was thinking I could get a much higher rate of fire that way. However at least with a mosin if I operate it with my right hand my left thumb does seem to block the bolt from movin fully back.

Lefty here too. I prefer my left-handed Remington CDL (see below) for offhand shooting, but I agree with previous posters it does feel wierd, and if always on a bipod or other rest there are definite benefits to shooting a right-handed action as a lefty, so for example my Remington 700P is right-handed.

Also - Montana Rifle Company makes some real beauties in both left- and right-hand. Anyone here have experience with one of those?

I have a custom built gun on a left handed Montana Rifle Co action. It's a modified Model 70 action, I use it for hunting and in 1,000 yard match shooting.

              That's what I thought.

While I recognize the utility of the traditional bolt handle placement for hunting, I'm in the "tactical" world and just about every bolt action rifle I see is on a bench or rest of some kind, with a bipod. Those fancy "sniper" chassis are currently all the rage, and they are all so big and heavy they just about mandate use with a bipod.

In that configuration, it seems to me to make absolutely more sense for the bolt handle to be on the side of your support arm. This would also help with shot follow-though.

Would love to see photos and specs. In fact I'd bet dollars-to-donuts that gun deserves its own thread!

Same here in regards to Montana lefty action. My .500 MDM big game hunt gun is based on a Montana action.

Looking for a .223/5.56 bolt action for my left-handed girlfriend..

Could someone recommend a make/model with a lot of aftermarket parts available? I'm new to bolt actions myself, just purchased a Rem 700 in 308 for myself and just trying to get something similar for the S/O. She doesn't shoot often so hopefully something not too expensive.

See the Remington left-hand list here. Maybe the varminter, tho it's got a long heavy barrel. http://www.remington.com/product-fam...enterfire.aspx

Here's the Savage page where you can select right- or left-hand in the menu. Too bad the lightweight Walking Varminter doesn't come in left-hand I think but Savage comes highly recommended. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/finder/

Thank you for the quick (and extremely helpful) response! I'm now looking at a Savage Axis. My girlfriend is pretty small (5'3", 105 lbs) so it looks like it'll be more than enough for what we plan to use it for.

Glad to help. The Axis is an excellent choice for your purposes, and has received great reviews. Good luck, and if you go with that one please let us know how she likes it.

Might want to try savage LRPV , it's a right handed bolt with left hand feed. It's
pretty nice and accurate as hell.
