Kinda difficult to control someone with a BFG who decides to setup right next to you, even though we were there first.

All their models are designed for big adult melon heads. I was only able to find one that was designed for youth with small melon heads by Walkers.

      Text him :-)

Like others have said, just buy some good quality electronic muffs. Bring extra batteries. And add ear plugs as necessary.

          Is he a teenager?

He'll just ignore you like usual even with electronic ear pro.

Want to tell him something? Text him...

Take him out to BLM land to teach him. Plenty of desert here in California. Find a nice quiet spot and make some noise. I taught my daughter at a friends ranch. I will do the same with my boys when they get old enough. It's much easier to coach them when they are the only shooter for miles.

That was the first thing I thought of when the OP mentioned teenager. You don't even need to text. Just type on a cell phone or tablet, tap him on the shoulder and show him what you wrote.

Shock collars are good for teenagers. Really gets them to focus... ;-)

Actually, I have two sets of Caldwell/Sportsmans Guide electronic muffs that were purchased for $15 each on sale. They work well, but the range can be a bit confusing.

For every new shooter, I go over the range commands and what to expect when there, before we go. Keep it simple. Without a gun in hand, we practice safe handling, unloading, stance, etc. Then when we get to the range it makes more sense and you don't have to worry as much.

Not a teenager. But, texting sounds like a good idea.
