    military ammo myth??

The saying is that military ammo is so powerful and so fast that even if it misses a person within a few feet, the person will still be shred to pieces. In show of respect, i just nodded and said "ok". This came from a vet who's career was cut short by an IED.

So, tell me this is true, because i need some for hunting those pesky ground hogs!!

You guys ever heard this before?

From what I remember being told when in the Marine Corps is that if a 50 cal round gets within 6 inches of you. It can take away skin due to the air pressure surrounding the round. Or something along those lines. I would figure it could apply to any ammo just have to get closer the smaller the round Is.

My business partner (air force) shared the same wisdom.

I second the 50cal lore. Never tried it though. Any volunteers out there?

Don't worry OP, it's pretty common.

I've had a guy in the Navy insist that the CIWS fires 5.56 projectiles out of a 20mm shell. You learn to just walk away from those people and envy the world they live in because it's got to be a pretty awesome place.

Are you sure that the guy said 5.56mm? You do realize that the Mk149 cartridge fired by CIWS uses APDS projectiles, right?

The only thing a 50 cal round going by within 6" might do...is make you evacuate your bowels.

I don't know what this guy's deal is; but for awhile there has been an effort by the progressives to put the meme out there that military ammo is special... especially deadly... mainly deployed as to why the mil shouldn't be able to sell once fired brass (its military brass; re: super deadly!).

                              typical nonsense.
