Input on fair offer for two guns

I am having to move and unfortunately have to part ways with two of my prize possessions. I decided to sell my S&W .500 8.25" barrel and my Sig 1911 Stainless with rails. The Sig is new and the Smith .500 has about 25 rounds through it.

Anyhow, I took them to a local shop to see what I could get for them. I was asking $650 for the 500 and $700 for the Sig. The guy tells me that he can offer $350 for the Sig and $375 for the Smith.... That seems really crazy! I know when selling guns you take a hit, but this offer seems ridiculously low

Ridicuously low - I’d buy them both from you for $400/piece - seriously though. The shop does need to make a profit, but you can gunbroker for whats selling then adjust accordingly. CGN does have a marketplace...

Either is worth at least what they offered for both.

Check online to see what they are SELLING for, not necessarily what they are listed at, especially on calguns.

Hit up your LGS and ask them if they do consignment.

I decided to go to the shop for quick sale because I really don't have time to hassle. But after looking at Gunbroker.com, I see that he was really trying to rip me off and selling to private seller might be my best option at this point.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I never thought I would have to sell one of my baby's but sometimes life throws you a screw ball.

Consignment. Upside is the LGS's cut will be 20-25% of whatever you will accept for each. Downside is you will have to wait for a buyer.

Get a clue! They are not trying to rip you off. They are trying to make a living. If you want to sell your guns fast to a shop, you will take what you are offered. If you want to spend the time to market and sell them yourself, you will get more for them. If the shop really wanted those guns, they would have already ordered them. But, you walked in and asked them what they would give you for something that they may or may not be able to move quickly. It's up to you and your potential buyer to come to an agreement on what they are worth for you to part with them and for the buyer to get them. Personally, I don't want either one so, I'd offer you about the same that the shop offered. However, I've also been known to pay more than MSRP on a used gun that I really wanted. Why is this concept so hard for many people to understand?

They buy and sell, have overhead and employees. They need to make a profit on every single gun. If you want fair market, you put them up for sale private party and do all the work yourself. You have no overhead and no employees. You deal with all the questions, offers, trade offers, maybe even a I will take it and then the buyer flakes.
If you want to sell them fast, you take less, easy to understand.

Agreed. But if they bought that nib sig for $375, and sold it, they would be making WAY more than if they ordered one and sold it.

                      Right?

Maybe...... They might sit on it for awhile, and then sell it for a lower offer. You never know.

This sounds close maybe even a little low if you were willing to wait.
Go for PPT here in the Marketplace, ask for $XXX or OBO, you might be surprised.
                          I've seen 500's for over 1000 here.

Maybe? Come on. Whatever it lists at, they aren't paying $375 to get them.

That would sell all day long for $700. No way they sell other Sigs, or any firearm, for a 50% markup.

I don't criticize them, I don't think its wrong, it's like trading in a car, typically the dealer makes more on the trade in than on the new vehicle.

If op wants top dollar, selling it to someone else to sell it again is never going to get him the most money.

                            But that's pretty low.

As mentioned above, I do appreciate the feedback. Good news is I found a buyer for the Sig, one of the fellow Calgunners and he gave me a pretty decent offer. Helped me out and he gets a great gun that I am probably going to cry about letting go for a while.
