Define "Collection"

But how do you explain people like me that they have or will shoot 99%+ of their guns but have not shot some of them in over 5 years?

I am a sorta collector I suppose.

This was my situation....6 model 70's and I only used one favorite for hunting. It accured to me to keep the one I used and sell the rest and buy one very nice Win M70 Ultra grade or a nice pre 64. It got to the point where another gun would just sit in the safe....So why not have a few very nice guns rather then a bunch of shooters hanging in the safe...much easier on the up keep also. Folks will say "but I shoot all my guns" Thats fine...There comes a point when you have a hunting rifle, a trap gun, a skeet gun, a shilouette gun, .......bla bla bla.....how much time to you have to use this stuff. Whats left.... collecting the rare, the engraved, the nice wood. I won't even consider buying another shooter.

If I had to start all over again, I'd only buy more top end quality stuff. Maybe a few basic pieces for rough duty use. And I'd buy the odd and more marginal stuff only if it at a giveaway price.

I have a lot of weird or 2nd tier guns because I got them for a song. Some have been interesting to own and decent guns.

A collection is what you hold dear whether that's 1 or 100. It seems my methodology is akin to walking on a beach picking up interesting rocks. Others have more focus which I do admire. I have a POS SKS that is one of my favorites.

Can you own huge amounts of guns and still not be a collector?

After an hour or so of admiring what you have, I'm going to ask if you have any more and I'll be disappointed when you say no. Some Berkeley folks I know would take less than one minute to evacuate your house, call the police, and start a petition to take away everybody's guns.

I don't have an arsenal, I wish I did, a place where guns are made. I have an armory, a place they are stored
