The cost is not a big deal if the gun is made to exacting standards of the originals.

However, while the ammo is still available, I am reluctant to add yet another need for obscure ammo to my shopping list. At the same time, I can not think of any other cartridge to chamber it in that would not then lose its luster. Chambering it in a common pistol round or even something like 5.7X28mm would be sacrilege.

I agree. I'd pick up the MP 38 "pistol". I remember seeing Ravi and John Bush selling a mismatched kit for $900 at a gun show decades ago. But I passed.

$5000 for a gun used by the losing team, no thanks.

Why not just get the GSG/ATI STG-44 in .22LR?

I bet some guys at HK Forum is figuring out how to drop their registered Fleming auto sears in the STG44 reproductions once it arrives over here.

                    At 5k, I'd rather opt for a FG42 relica

Gotta agree with this. It's a replica, not an original. I don't see the value at $5K. If you just want the look get the GSG and save your money.

Good on them for coming up with this and while it looks cool, it's not really my cup of tea.

I think it's either hornaday or prvi that makes new 7.92 kurz

Prvi Partizan has been making 7.92x33mm since the mid-1940s.
They haven't stopped making it since then.
During the Cold War they were making it to supply all the German surplus STG-44 that were given away to socialist rebel groups during the 1950s-1960s.

These guns will probally be a super small cult niche, like the desert eagle or FN five seven.

Overshadowed by a sea of modern semi auto rifles.
