    The Greatest Generation

The world will be a poorer place when people like this are gone:

True enough, but the world will also be infinitely better when the children of the Greatest Generation are gone, so there that to look forward to at least.

As for the kids of the Great Generation, I am confident that they are solving problems and entering new frontiers that did not exist or went unrecognized in the generation of their parents. It's a new world for every generation, and for those that can't look beyond what their own generation has accomplished, I see crotchety days of misery and loneliness in an old folks home.

My grandfather was one of the best of the Great Generation. When he passed, he had embraced subsequent generations of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even a few great, great grandchildren. He educated us all on history and values from his first person perspective through just short of a 100 years, and he learned from each of ours, from calls to end the draft, for peace protests, to calls to defeat terrorism wherever it grows, to computers, to email, to Facebook, and more. When he left us, we were better because of him, and he left this world open minded, happy, conversant, and at peace because of what he knew his progeny has and will accomplish. He was proud for his family to be carrying on the family name that he had carried from his family for nearly 100 years.

"The Greatest Generation" is a sound byte to cover up and distract from the fact the TGG is actually the most decadent and privileged generation, as well as the generation who "lost America".

If they were in the 20s during WW2 then they were the people in the positions of authority, and it was on Their Watch, when things like cultural Marxism and unlimited 3rd world immigration killed the USA.

The irreversible decline of the USA coincides with TGG "taking the reins of power" as they entered their 40s, 50s and 60s.

IMO TGG was just prior to the increased immigration of 1830s. They were the ones first settled in parts of the far West, including areas that were technically still Mexico, turning central CA from a marsh to farmland, and who won the Mex-American War, cementing the size and shape of the USA.

What a dickhead! And you too Big Pimping

I am from the generation that you seem to feel we would be better off without. I graduated from high school and two months later I was drafted, something that your generation never has had to deal with.

I am not really sure where you get your attitude towards the baby boomers, but how about this: take the penis that is growing out of your forehead and insert it where your brains fell out.

They think we got a big free ride in life. They have no idea about Vietnam, race relations, hard work, working a job AND going to school, mowing a lawn, painting your own house, and making your own way in life. They think what we have was handed to us.

Worked two jobs to put myself through college, 31 years of active and reserve military service. Vote in every election, pay my taxes on time and in full. Volunteer in the community, was active in scouting and youth soccer. Keep my yard clean. Have 4 kids, two served in the military, one now a LEO. Youngest is an Eagle scout. Yep, I'm proud of what I've done and how my family continues to contribute more to society than they get. Yep I'm a baby boomer. If you work real hard your generation can be as good as ours.

I worked seven days a week for two years between 2011 and 2013 in order to pay off bills and put some money away. Most of the new generations whine like a five year old if they have to wait for something that they order or something goes awry with their perfect little lives. For proof, just look at all the sniveling about PSA threads.

They won a war, and usherd in an era of unmatched prosperity and innovation, and for that they have my respect.

They also raised a generation of self entitled spoiled A-holes that are ruining the country. For that they have my scorn.

Looking past the butthurt, I'm finding this thread interesting. Like most things in life there are few absolutes. I suspect EVERY generation leaves a legacy of both good and bad. Nobody is fully guilty and nobody is fully innocent. And while some things might be irreversible, others can be corrected by the next generation...if they choose to. Heck, maybe everything is fixable if we want it badly enough.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I guess I'm between "The Greatest Generation" and the baby boomers, being born the year before WWll started.

So I take offence to some of the posts in this thread!
