    Crossing state lines with guns

Well I finallly made the jump and decided that ive had enough with the ridiculous cost of living in this state and am moving myself and my family to Texas to live a more "free" life if you will. I'm gonna miss a lot of things, but gun laws will NOT be one of them...along with countless other things from this state.

When I decide to drive to our new home, I wil be going through Arizona and New Mexico and I will be transporting my arsenal with me. I don't trust moving company's so I think I'll drive one of my cars there with the guns, ammo and other valuables.

My question is what do I need to do to make sure I have no issues crossing state lines on the way? I will have them all locked up properly, but I'm not sure what else will be required as far as the guns and ammo are concerned. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

When you cross the state line from California into Arizona, don't look back. That's all the advice I have for you. God speed and well wishes on your move.

Oh, I won't!! The first thing I'll do after getting settled and obtaining a Texas DL is head on down to the local gun shop and buy myself a nice "off roster" pistol, you know...like one of those "dangerous" California ones that we can't be trusted to own.....without the LCI! Haha!! So long communist Cali!! Oh and by the way, I'll walkout the door with it in my arms the same minute I buy it! Imagine that???

      Thanks for the words.

For some unkown reason as soon as you cross into AZ the mags might fall out of your AR and grow up to normal size. Enjoy TX nice people my daughter lives in TX.

If you have them locked up to meet California transportation laws then you wont have a problem in AZ, NM, or TX.

For me it wasn't just the gun issues. Ya that stuff SUX like a turbine engine but it was lots of other things that encouraged me to leave. The regulations there are beyond stupidity, all you hear is "NO YOU CANT DO THAT". The cost of living is on the insane side. Then you have the dumbasses in Sacramento and in the Senate or Congress, dear God in Heaven what a bunch of perverts. And people keep sending them back over and over and over. They bring shame on the real Californians, hard working decent people that they are and they have to endure this sort of perverts chit. For years and even before all of this other crap started I always said I would move for better hunting and fishing after I retired, and I did. We didn't run away from the fight we wanted something different. Good luck to ya, and yes there are lots of things I miss from my old home state.

Unloaded and in a locked container is a legal method to transport firearms/ammunition from CA to TX.

I routinely travel cross country with firearms an ammo. In addition to storing the firearms/ammo per FOPA I bring a copy of the law plus my receipts for the firearms on the odd chance I get questioned about them.

Congrats on finding a place outside of Cali.I've been looking too and have not found any home that I would like to purchase yet outside Cali. But if I do I would probably sell my toys here, at least they are grand fathered in and repurchased them back in my new state of choice.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

I'm getting more and more excited every day! Can't wait to walk into a gun store and walk out with a new gun that doesn't have all the restrictions like they do in this dumb *** state!

I thought once you crossed the CA AZ boarder you were supposed to unlock and load all of your firearms.. remove bullet buttons, and insert standard capacity mags.

Yup! Also looking forward to Texas passing through open carry. Looks like it's all but a done deal.

On the flip side, for each good person that leaves ten POS's move in and take your place. Why can't it be the opposite and we actually turn CA back to the way it used to be?!

Enjoy TX, my job brings me to AZ and its great! While OC and CC is allowed w/o a license its not like the anti's would have you believe. In the last 11 years of coming here I've only seen a few OC and CC. But you can bet your arse that if you do something stupid you might have multiple guns in your face.

The hard part is walking into gun stores and remembering that CA gun stores used to look like that.

Try to make the trip in one day so you don't have to leave them in the car or haul them into a motel room. Or at least don't spend the night in NM that whole state looks edgy. Got off the fwy to get gas/room on the west side of Albequerci (spelling?). Looked like the bad side of town so we went to the east side. The motel had a 10' chainlink fence with razor wire and the church across the street had bars on the windows. Got back on the fwy and didn't stop til Texas.
