Talk to Dad and make sure he is eligible and understands you do not want to piss Mom off.

    If GTG do the paperwork.

(If no go, I'll double IVC who says he'll dispose of it for $100.)

You can't just give it to him. You have to DROS it.

EDIT: Nevermind, saw you're going to transfer it.

Do they know that you are a gun owner?
You might just ask him, nonchalantly, what his wife's attitude about guns is.

so the latest update is that we tried to make contact yesterday but she didnt pick up the phone. My wife left her a VM saying something along the likes of "Hey KCJR1125 bought John a late xmas present and wants to give it to him but we need to talk to you about it first, please call us."

after the VM we waited about an hour or two with no call back so my wife IM'ed her on Facebook with a similar message. She "seen" the message but didnt write back or call back yet.

DO you think that she has a general idea of what my present is given the fact that my wife posts alot about our guns and ownership in general and isnt very happy about it or you think she just hasnt had time to respond yet? from what my gal tells me, shes pretty quick about responding.

THis will truly be very disappointing if i cant give him this gift as i KNOW he will absolutely love it. I might just drive there and do it in person without giving his wife the heads up, although it may seem disrespectful on my behalf. Ill let you guys know how it goes later today.

Maybe offer to have the firing pin removed before giving it to them? (Is that even possible with that model?). A locked presentation case sounds great too but maybe with the revolver in that neutered "state" would assuage any fears.

Hey OP, great story. I think your gift from the heart is fantastic. Suppose the mother really is anti gun (though she probably isn't), maybe you'd consider giving him a non firing replica that is just as beautiful and meaningful?

^^^ She raised your wife and cared for her just as much as your father in law. Why would you get a special gift for John and nothing for her in appreciation of the same things?? That is probabely why she did not just jump up and answer back.

What is odd here (at least to me): You know the family since you were in high school, married to their daughter for over a decade, and you have never talked guns with your father in law who has served in Army and do not know if he has guns or not, or if he can leggaly own???!!!

so just to update you guys the mom ended up calling back on Tuesday and it was just a didnt see the message kinda thing. When my wife explained what we wanted to do she was over joyed and said he woudl LOVE IT!

When i heard this i was jumping for joy, very excited and couldnt wait. WE talked it over and decided to go over there Friday night before dinner. when we met with them on friday he had no idea we were even coming and was surprised we came by because its kind of been awhile since I have personally seen him. we started just little chit chat and the holidays came up so i used that as my que. I said "speaking of holidays John thats why we are here, i got a couple of late presents for you." He turned to me and said "you got me something? Good because i didnt get you S H I T" i laughed and gave him the first gift which was a 20 movie box set of all starring John Wayne (shout out here to Royal Loan for gifting this to me to go along with the gun itself) and BOYwas he Excited just to see that. i told him "hey you probably already have all these but what the hey you know"

At this point he starts talking about how hes gonna binge watch the movies and starts pointing out "oh hey its got ________ & _______!!"

SO now my wife and i look at each other and we know ok now lets do the gun. SO i come up and say Hey John This kinda goes with the Movie set too check this out; This is where i pull out the Ruger Red John Wayne Commerative box that Ruger sent me and i had him open it. At first he was kinda taken back like oh wow a gun but then he picked up and held it to the light, at this point i told him what was special aout this gun and showed him the JW on the handles and the Gold Signature on top on i Swear i have never seen such a BIG man as himself almost shed a tear. Needless to say he was very overjoyed.

We talked about it for while and told me about all his marksmanship accolades he got while in the service and of course of the Duke himself.

It was a great feeling all the way around the room he thanked me many times to all the while i told him not to because i am the one who is thanking him for making it possible for me to meet my future wife in your home.
