I dont know if this is the right place but I am trying to get more info on PPT. Do you first DROS/FSC then give payment to seller? or Give payment to seller then DROS/FSC? Any help would be appreciated.

You pay for the gun then start the process. Once you start the paperwork it's your gun wether you pass DROS or not. I've always looked at the gun and paid for it before you get in the store.Comment

In my experience, money changes hands once weapon has been examined and determined to be acceptable by the buyer. Then proceed into shop to do PPT.Comment

I always pay after paperwork is signed and dros is complete. I am always paranoid about paying for something I do not legally own yet. What if they took my cash and left. No recourse.sigpic

This is not correct.
See this post for PC Code reference on ownership of firearm if buyer fails DROS (even if just DMV Reject vs prohibited):

Money should be exchanged before the paperwork starts. I sold a pistol a couple months back and felt like a jerk asking the buyer for the money before he started the paperwork, but that's the way it needs to be.
I think many people don't realize that once the DROS goes through, the transfer has taken place whether the money has been paid or not. What would you do if the DROS is finished and the buyer tells you he can't find his cash?Comment

Should always pay after. That's been the case in all my PPTs. If you pay before, what if a party forgets a crucial item? What if they get denied? What if that shop isn't doing PPTs etc.
For the people who are worried about the buyer leaving without paying, that's a groundless fear. All transactions will be video recorded and the person must fill out a bunch of paperwork.Wise men seldom speak. - ArcusComment

It really depends on both parties. Typically, sellers prefer that you pay first...and obviously you would prefer to pay after. As far as I can tell, most sellers request the cash before starting DROS. I've had one LGS ask us to come in, look over the paperwork, sign it, then go outside to complete the transaction. Once we got back in, they submitted the DROS.Comment
