Anyone from the Ventura / Santa Barbara area?

    Howdy,

I live in the East Bay and I'm new to the Shooting Sports. Just joined the Diablo Gun Club in Concord, and really want to get into rifle/pistol Silhouette,
action pistol, and hunting small varmints (mainly 22LR at this stage). In the last 6 months, I've purchased 2 rifles and 3 handguns... These are my first firearms.
Guess my point is... I'm really getting into it!

All of a sudden, my wife is wanting us to relocate to Ventura or Santa Barbara to be closer to her folks, who are getting up in age.

Is SB & Ventura Counties gun friendly? I found this Club online in SB that offers Silhouette: Winchester Canyon Gun Club: http://www.wcgc.org/
But I'm not finding many outdoor ranges in Ventura. What about hunting / plinking around there? I guess the Lead Ban has really put a damper
on .22LR varmint hunting (?) Can I at least go plinking in the foothills fairly close by?

I want to expand my collection, not get rid of it!

    Thanks in advance!

WCGC is alright, the Glass Factory (also in SB) is more fun. Gun friendly isn't the term I'd use to describe those counties, but by and large they're no more anti-gun than the Bay Area.

There are many good Calgunners from the area that'll set you right .

There are both public and private ranges in Piru. There's an indoor range in Oxnard. Also, both Angeles and Oak Tree are +/- an hour from anywhere Ventura County. There's also Ojai Valley Gun Club in Ventura County and Desert Marksman in LA County. Both are members only ranges. There are Silhouette ranges at Ojai and Angles. You would only be a couple hours from San Luis Obispo and Colinga which also have silhouette ranges. Piru offers several different action pistol venues including hosting the state steel challenge every year. Also, Ventura County has some of the best condor hunting in the country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not from around those parts but it's always good to hear/read from an active shooter! Good luck with the move.

Ventura County used to be pretty gun friendly and not too bad to get a CCW in. I don't know if that still holds true.

Angeles has a Silhouette club. Piru in Ventura county has at least 5 action pistol matches a month, plus 3 gun once a month.

There is a club that shoots off the Grapevine that does long range something or other. http://www.brrc.org/ That's the website see if it is what you are interested in.

5 dogs in Bakersfield has pistol matches at least once a month. Canyon Oaks has a pistol match once a month.

You might have to do a bit of driving but these are all acceptable distances if I lived in Ventura County.

              Good luck
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.
