As stated, in a climate controlled safe. During transport, a foam-lined carrying case would be fine.

Sorry as to not thread Hijack:

Make sure they are lubed up well and control the humidity to the best of you ability in the stored location.
I also check on them often.

Great looking dogs, I'd be more afraid of the vicious stay at home wife. I have one of those and they can be really mean

I spray mine down with G96, air dry for a day, and then put into a gun sock.

Be careful with the humidity control, really low humidity is not good for wood grips and rifle stocks.

If your fear is corrosion, for the long term, I use my food saver and vacuum bag them (if being stored for more than a year). My AR Pistol is welded steel, a fully functioning firing weapon, but still raw steel. I put in vacuum to ensure nothing would happen to it (corrosion wise) until I can get a final finish coat to it.

I disassemble the gun and store it in pieces in three different safes. In another safe I have gunpowder and another primers and another shells and bullets. This ensure no one can be harmed on accident. In case of attack I will collect the pieces, load some rounds and reassemble the gun!

Just kidding. Two of my guns live in my trunk, and get taken out every so often for cleaning and inspection (once a month... should be once a week). Another one or two are loaded and in accessible places. I double check them once every two weeks or so. The others are cleaned and locked up, having been given thin coats of rust preventative, etc.

for long-term storage and secure housing, the group sits in a gun safe. the inside of the home and area around the safe is guarded 24/7 by a male pit and female rott that do not respond favorably to uninvited guests. i've taken to stacking handguns in old wooden cigar boxes inside the gun safe; original factory boxes/cases are stored elsewhere. i run a GoldenRod inside and make scheduled checks on the condition of guns to ensure no rust formation has reared it's ugly head.
