    Angeles Range Open Tomorrow !

I just returned from a brief tour of the Angeles Shooting Ranges, I'm happy to report Angeles will be open for business first thing tomorrow/ Weds at 9:00 am. All of the facilities remain intact, none of the structures, benches or shooting areas received any damage whatsoever.
The surrounding scrub brush has taken a beating though, as in there isn't any. Much of the scrub along the access road leading to the ranges looks like the surface of the moon, and I think the telephone lines are still down.
But I spoke to the boss moments ago, he says Angeles will be open for business on Weds am.
    See you there !

    Excellent news!

Again, this is why we should not take whatever ranges we do have left for granted.

Hopefully, the fire will be contained before it claims any more homes and structures. This one got big quick.

    Thanks for the update, EF!

It's amazing that the fire could start that close to the range, and not have anything affected -- we lucked out!

Power out but may open on Wed. but no night shooting.
Power may be back in a couple days.
Phone lines are a mess, mostly laying on the road, no idea on that fix yet.
Shooting lines in good shape no fire damage.
Down range most trees and shrubs are gone.
Moore & Moore Sporting clays had more damage than us.
Will try to keep up dates on the web page starting Wed.

so where exactly did the fire start? There was a brief radio report on KFI ~~48hrs ago that it was started by gunfire, is this (again) true?
If so, it might be time for outdoor ranges to consider limiting their firing on high-winds days to targets in enclosed barren bermed areas. We're only hurting ourselves if we keep starting these big blazes. And you can be damned sure that Sierra Club et al are already fomenting for such a restriction, if not outright closure (yet again).

So, if there's nothing to burn, can we shoot magnetic ammo?

The fire started at 2:30 am by a downed power line[ as a result of high winds]. The power line or one of its conductors sparked, bam- instant forrest fire. By 2:45 am[ someone was on the range land in a mobile home, the inhabitants got out but the mobile home burned to the ground, literally nothing left but charred remains].
Worth mentioning- I can't emphasize the professionalism of the fire teams up here in the north San Fernando Valley. These guys are PROS, and I was astonished at the speed that this raging inferno under control. And limited the damage as much as they did. I am very impressed by the fire control guys working the Angeles State Forrest.

I took these 5 minutes after waking up, 6:00 am Monday morning,

I can almost smell the fire when I look at those pictures. I am very glad Angeles made it out on top
