Could someone help a brother out?

I just got this email from a former professor of mine and I want to give him good, sound advice.

A question: Do you know where there is a range that offers a good firearms safety course, specifically, a handgun safety course? I am giving my son a revolver. He's never had one, and I don't remember if he's ever fired one. He was never interested in firearms while growing up. But, now that he's become a victim of crime (residential burglary), he wants a handgun. He lives in Dublin. Any suggestions?
I don't live anywhere near Dublin, so I was hoping some of you far East Bay Calgunners could step in here and lend some advice that I can pass along as my own

    Thanks.

I'd suggest he/you contact the NRA to seek out the nearest handgun safety instructor or scheduled group class.
And contact the nearest indoor ranges to find out if they have trainers on staff or who regularly use their facilities to conduct such training.
You could also contact the nearest Boy Scout troops to find out if they conduct Shooting Badge trials and who the certified instructor is that they use.
And lastly, contact your local police to see if they can recommend such a trainer.

And in the meantime, get them hooked up with the Handgun Safety Certificate booklet, some training tapes, and the fundamentals of gun safety.

I appreciate the suggestion, but that's a little more indepth than I was thinking. I'm just wondering if any of the ranges in the Dublin area offer basic handgun safety classes like Reeds in SJ does.... and if so when?

Chabot offers a hand gun classes, Targetmasters in Milpitas offers a very basic 2 hour course about guns (Just a starter). He will have to get his HSC Card anyway, so that is a start too.

You might try calling the Pleasanton-Livermore range in Livermore and Chabot in Castro Valley.

Chabot range is right up the hill from Dublin.

They offer "basic pistol" classes regularly -- all day session including 2+ hours of shooting in the PM for $75 fee. Next classes are Oct 25, Nov 8, Nov 22.
"Please call the office at 510-569-0213 to register. Payment by credit card can be made over the phone."

With that said, I know Optimists run a fine place at San Leandro on Davis St near the bay. It's a little further to drive, but you won't go wrong going there.

I'm not bad-mouthing Livermore Rod and gun -- and they are very close to you -- just haven't been there so can't comment.

                        Good shooting.
