Factory gun boxes?

It's like everything that comes into the house...does it really need to be saved? Sure, if it's an investment, collectors piece or you think you will sell it at some point, yea, save the box. Otherwise, are you going to use it enough to justify keeping it?

I don't store or use boxes for transport. So trash they go. There's plenty of other stuff around here competing for storage space. I also have yet to sell any gun I've bought in the last 20 years.

That's funny about the Colt boxes - they were so thin and flimsy.

My Tupperware chills in my closet. I hope one day to find a use for them before I get pissed and just throw them all in the trash. They take up a lot of space.

I know a guy with original boxes for his gold cups and delta elites.

It significantly adds to the value.

Just make sure it doesn't get hot up there. Your plastic boxes will warp, and your paper/cardboard based boxes will get dried out, glues will soften and separate, then peel and deteriorate quickly.

Looking at your feedback of 50 - more than half of those are sales; I'm betting you have sold to a "collector" at least once whether you like it or not, whether the gun was collectible or not.

In any case (pun intended) - the "with box" thing did not become as big an issue until books like S.P. Fjestad Blue Book/Gun Digest and such started placing importance and giving ratings with percentages for including the box.

Prior to that, the larger percentage of collectors did not put as much emphasis on it - of course it was nice to have, but now days, I've seen extremely nice guns without the box and original paperwork be a deal-breaker for many collectors, no matter the make/model of the gun.

My most expensive gun came in the cheapest cardboard box and I tossed it. I've kept the plastic ones, not sure why....it's not like I don't have enough other crap I'm never going to use again already in the garage

Some of those gun boxes can be a gold mine, my brother went a estate sale last week and found a pristine Colt Python 357 mag revolver box with papers circa 1969, but no gun. they can go for 75.00 to 150.00 on e-bay.
