PPT Woes

Be sure to tell them you will never buy anything from them again. Everyone forgets that the LGS community supported PPT through an FFL to get that very foot traffic. Disgusting but good business. Now some of them turn their noses at it. foot traffic in retail is invaluable, idiots.

yup, in the 90's when the PPT requirement went into effect, $10 was real money so it was worth it to the LGS to do PPTs happily and they knew they got 3 forced sets of eyes through the door (1 seller and 2 for the buyer) that they could try to make a sale. Free advertising. but now that $10 isn't worth as much, many of them do everything they can to avoid doing them.

Guess what Mr. LGS, we know you don't want to do them, we don't want to have to go to you to do them either!

When I worked in a pawn shop PPT's were free money. You have one guy with fresh cash in his pocket and another guy who may need stuff for his new gun.

We had orders to ask the seller what he wanted to play with out of the gun case while we did the paperwork. That move sold a lot of guns.

Finish the paperwork and ask the buyer. "What do you need for your new gun. Ammo, cleaning kit, leather?" That sold even more product.

Just be nice, don't tell stories, be a know it all and offer goods and services to the customers in a nice way and they will put their money in your cash register.

I usually frequent the store if the service is good regardless of types of merchandise. As a matter of fact, even if their price is a little higher than other stores but has a good service, the price is not an issue for me.

But, this store located on Las Tunas Drive in San Gabriel lost my interest and business.

I discovered the existence of Bay Area gun stores through PPT. The ones that treated me decently I have bought supplies at or guns. The one's that didn't, like US Arms in Sunnyvale (2hour wait, charged sales tax) I never return to and tell everyone. Oh, look, I did it again.

My wife did a PPT on Monday at Wilde Built in San Diego. I swear it didn't take more than 10 minutes. Guy got on it instantly, no issues, no eye roll.
We didn't buy anything from there but I window shopped the whole time I was there. Knowing that some shops have issues with PPT, it made the experience that much more positive.
I've already written off a couple local shops after annoying/hassled customer service.
Cost $44 OTD with the stupid lock.

+1 for Wilde Build Tactical in La Mesa. It's the only gun shop I go to now.

Never had to wait. Staff remembered my name. Customer Service is everything.

I'm amazed when I hear stories of 45 minutes to an hour. I did a few PPTs in California and it was never more than 15 minutes, probably less.

I wouldn't call that a refusal. Offering to make an appointment isn't great customer service, but it's his store.
I know that some LGS's hate them when they are busy selling guns, but how hard is it to call around and find one that isn't busy?

I do my PPT's at Alamo Pawn in West Covina. Super friendly service and fast too!

This may be a dumb question but I have never done a PPT. Do you have to do the 10 day or any type of waiting period like when buying a gun normally. Also do you have to do the Hand Gun Safety Card if PPTING a Handgu?
