    PPT Woes

I went to a certain sporting goods store yesterday to transfer 2 pistols. When I walked in and asked if I can do the transfer, the owner said I need make an appointment.

He specifically said it takes 45 minutes per pistol and he is not making money on it. He also said he may be able to do it on Saturday if I make an appointment.

I kind of understand he is not making money on PPT, and it sounds like a refuse. I guess because the guns are not his main sales item at the store, I guess he doesn't care. I wonder if I have to make an appointment to buy a gun also. I was very disappointed.

I then went to Bain and Davis which is about 3 minutes from there. They were nice and took care of the transfer without an issue. I know which gunshop I will frequent.

This was the second time I was refused on PPT. The first time was at the Turners in Norwalk. I don't go there anymore either.

Some stores hate doing them, there's basically no money in it for them and you're tying up their safe rent free for 10 days. If I had a store, I'd do it, no problem.

Just report them to CA DOJ. I don't understand why some shops are not PPT friendly. RG can get it done in 11mins.

Sucks about your experience at the LGS.

Also had a similar PPT experience at the Norwalk Turners. Had to wait an hour for a PPT. The staff was nice enough to warn about the wait but still.

I had that happen to me a few weeks ago. I called DOJ. They have to do those transfers it's part of their FFL agreement. if I were to go in there to buy a firearm, they would make me obey the rules to the letter of the law. If they are not willing to obey the law, then I'm going to call the DOJ, which I did.

Its not hard to do a PPT. i dont get why gun store owners hate doing it... When i worked at a gun shop, typically the lowest guy on the totem pole got to do them, simply because they took a TINY bit longer then a normal sale AND had a lot of extra (shop) paperwork associated with them. It wasnt something ridiculous though, i think the average PPT, if the DROS computer was working and both of the customers knew what to do, was about 15 minutes, from hello to handshake

I've heard of certain shops overcharging. Not sure if this is what happened to you.

It amazes me that a business will spend a bunch of time and money (including discounts) to get a warm body through the door, but behave like morons when it comes to a PPT.

2 gun people for 30 minutes with a guaranteed return.

I don't know about other Turners but in their San Bernardino store I walk in, pull a number and do the PPT when it's called. NEVER been an issue.

Be sure to tell them you will never buy anything from them again. Everyone forgets that the LGS community supported PPT through an FFL to get that very foot traffic. Disgusting but good business. Now some of them turn their noses at it. foot traffic in retail is invaluable, idiots.

Why do FFL'S whine to us about not making money??? We aren't making money either, in fact we are losing $35, time, & gas. They get no pity from me.
