Shooting without hearing protection

OP, I got no problem with what you did. You wanted to try it and knew the risks.
I can't say I was interested in finding out how loud a gun is without ear-protection, but I ended up doing so inadvertently. I was done shooting at the Sunnyvale Range (enclosed concrete structure) and was waiting for the range to go hot so that I could grab my rifle off the bench and leave. When the range went hot, stupid me forgot to put on my earmuffs and I learned the hard way that a .308 round going off without ear-pro HURTS.

I made the mistake of forgetting to put on my ear pro when firing 7.62x39 in a confined space. 1 trigger pull was all I needed, ear pro was back on but the ringing lasted the whole day.Peace is that brief moment in history when everybody stands around reloading. - unknown

WHAT?I could be wrong now... But I don't think so.
Way down deep, I'm pretty shallow.
The thing is that idiots who vote for a socialist government get the government they deserve.
Unfortunately, those of us who did NOT vote for the socialists ALSO get the government the socialists deserve.

Shoot without hearing protection once too many times, and you'll never have to worry about hearing protection again.NRA Patron Member
I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.
Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.
I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.
I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.Comment

I poured two pints of human blood on my new livingroom persian rug so that I'd know what to expect if I ever have to defend my family. Sure, it's a one in a million chance I'll ever have to shoot an intruder in my home, but I think the damage I did was worth it.__________________

I know guys who shoot 9mm pistols without hearing protection EVER. I think they're morons.... ridiculous to jeopardize your hearing that way.Originally posted by RookieShooterOne of the theory is that the hormones they put in the milk. So yeah, I hunt.
I wear ear pro while hunting ducks, dove, most anything with a shotgun. When I hunt squirrels I take ears with me but don't usually put them in unless I see a squirrel. Same thing with deer and pigs. I've forgotten to put them in a few times, it's an uncomfortable experience that I try not to replicate.
I really need to get some of those in ear electronic plugs. I mean, they're like $800 bucks or something, but hearing aids are more expensive...
I also grew up shooting without hearing protection whenever we'd go to the desert. If there was ear protection it was whatever random things we could stuff in our ears. Benefits of growing up with a dad that was in the military in the 60's I guess.Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator.Comment

22LR and Shotguns arent that bad without ear protection. When i go rabbit hunting i never really wear it with the 22. 90% of the time with the 12g i will as well as long as i am using birdshot. havent done it with buck or slugs so theres that.Originally posted by OHODI guess I could rub my muff against his exwifes muff. Is that what they call muff diving?Originally posted by ivanimalI love you! (some Homo)

As a youth and teen I played drums. I sat behind a stack of speakers and monitors. My hearing has not been damaged
Two years ago while in Mammoth Lakes I shot .22lr and .45ACP without hearing protection. I had I-phone ear buds.
My ears rang for about an hour afterwards. No permanent damage.
When I hunt I don't wear hearing protection.Comment

I'm sure your audiologist looks back at all of the hearing tests he or she has been giving you that show no sign of loss and thinks you're lucky. As a youth and teen I played drums. I sat behind a stack of speakers and monitors. My hearing has not been damaged
