So my birthday is coming up in December and I would like to buy myself a "small" gift. I have narrowed down, what I really want, too an aimpoint micro t-1 or a Remington 870 police model. Since my birthday falls around Christmas time, I can only purchase one or the other. I don't have an optic for my AR and i don't have a shotgun. Both will each cost me about the same. Which would you choose?

You don't have an optic for your AR, but do you have sights for it?
While an 870 is not necessarily my personal choice for a shotgun, get the 870, and then get some irons later if you really don't have any sort of sights for the AR.
2 guns are better than 1, and while they wouldn't be the same, you'd still have one to use if something happened to the other.Comment

Buy the 870.Comment

I vote for Aimpoint...finish up the AR the way you want it and then move onto to other things once you're satisfied...once you get the shotty you might find yourself wanting other accessories for it as well.Comment

I have both. 870 security basically stays next to my bed and gets shot maybe 2x a year. Aimpoint sees about 25 range trips a year attached to my AR. If you want a range toy get the aimpoint. If you want something for home defense 870. You probably don't wanna use an ar with a red dot in any residential area for self defense.
Alternate option is get a normal 870 for 350 ish or less if used, and pick up a primary arms or holosun rds.
I love my t-1 but I bought it at a time when I was making better money with my business. If I had to buy another right now, being on a tighter budget, I'd likely go with a primary arms RDS (like I did on my saiga recently)Comment

Thanks for all the replies. I do have iron sights. A fixed FSB and a DD fixed rear. You don't have an optic for your AR, but do you have sights for it?

Lol I know I will want more accessories for the shotgun. Lol
The shotgun would primarily be a HD gun. However I would still likely take it to the range with me as often as the AR.I have both. 870 security basically stays next to my bed and gets shot maybe 2x a year. My personal opinion is that the $600+ 870 police is not worth the money.... I'd just get a regular 870 express tactical, I absolutely love mine. I've handled several of the 870 models and they all feel about the same, I don't see the value in the 'higher end' models.
Between the two options, I'd get an Aimpoint.Comment

Get a used wingmaster and a aimpoint pro. Both missions accomplished and the quality is damn near the same on both products.Comment

I've got an 870P and really like it. Have shot some 870 Express models and they are fine but the Police just feels a little heftier. The parkerized finish really helps too.
I'm obviously biased but get the 870 over the Aimpoint. You will have that 870 your entire life.Comment

Go Aimpoint. Finish up your AR. Great birthday gift.
Next, start looking around and make sure the 870 is what you want. Have two of them, but really shoot my Benelli M4 a lot more. You might just save for a little longer and get a different shot gun.Comment
