    long term magazine storage

How do you guys prepare your magazines for long term storage? - don't want to be messy with comosline and cheesecloth.

Can you store them in a ziplock bag, oiled with a post it saying what pistol or rifle it is for?

Will gun oil ruin a ziplock bag - in the long run?

In a cardboard box in the closet for the last five years.

Would be more pro active if storing outside.

I would avoid putting them in a bag, even with oil. If you mean long term storage as in years, I'd break them apart, lightly oil all the metal pieces (spring, follower, floor plate) and put them in a cardboard box or tote with silica (sp?) packets.

Not sure what a zip lock bag will do for a mag just siitting in storage.

Buy some ammo cans and fill em up.

My executor is not that knowledgeable about the various magazines I have, so I need to have a post it with the identifying info with it, a separate zip lock bag seemed a good answer and I have kept 10 Radom magazines in a zip lock bag for around 3 years without ill effects but was wondering about longer periods. I have guns I have not shot for decades, and with my failing eyesight, not likely to shoot anything but my favorites.

I haven't checked on the mags I have in some 50 Cal cans, so will check on them later this year.

                  Thanks for the help.

I left three Walther P1 mags (P38 post war) on my closet shelf - out of sight for a couple of years and found rust - really bad on one of them.

Gun Smith got made at me and had me boil them to stop the rust - but the pitting stays for life. I want to avoid this.

I use a silver Sharpie to label my mags for gun/caliber.

Light coat of oil on the mags stored in the "magazine drawer. "

Get a vacuum food sealer and put the mags in with silica paks. That should do it for a long time. No moisture, no oxygen, no rust.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...
