So, I searched this topic and found very little, other then lots of past arguments on the stupid "bump fire" stocks. I threw this in Off-topic for more of an honest debate then a gun discussion. I'm wondering what peoples overall opinions are on the traditional bump firing. Not the stocks, (which are illegal in California), but the finger through the belt loop.
I always shrugged it off as fairly immature, unsafe and a waste of ammo. I tried it once a few years ago during a bachelor party and a few of the guys laughed, but otherwise it was a complete waste of ammo. I've done it a few other times, but always with safety in mind over anything else. And always in BFE.
I'm out here in Arizona now and the opportunities to shoot are a lot easier. As I've discussed before the next exit up from my place is an enormous BLM mountain region with posted signs permitting shooting. I've been there a few times now and there's always dozens of people in the afternoons, I went out in the AM this week, found the place almost completely empty and decided to bump fire. It put a smile on my face much more then it ever has before, as I didn't find it unsafe or childish, (the damn mountain range is about a mile wide, no danger of hitting anything but the mountain) rather it felt good, just an expensive 3 second thrill.
The truly funny part was that about 5 minutes later, down at the other end of the mountain I heard someone else dump a mag on full auto or possibly bump fire. I went again with my AR-15 a few minutes later, then he or her went again about 5 minutes after later. Made me feel proud to be out of California, but on the way home I started wondering why so many people see "bump fire" as taboo. I know the obvious signs noted above, but are there other reasons?
Anyways, thoughts?
