I've used Federal/American Eagle, Remington, PMC, PPU, Tula, Perfecta, and Hornady. Never had a single issue with any of those

Now on the other hand, the only brand that I've ever had any hiccups with has been Winchester, specifically the Winchester white box 9mm, in 5 different boxes of ammo I have found the case to be too long and would not chamber into the gun.

Winchester White Box pistol ammo, both HP and ball have always been good to me. People say Winchester has the best brass for reloading too, so that's a plus. Walmart's been the best price I can find for that. It's $43 for a 100rnd pack of .45, I don't remember what 9mm and .40 I'm sure they are a good price too.

My dad handloads all our rifle and wheelgun ammo, so I couldn't tell you about that.

Russia surplus 7.62 54r . very rare to have a dud and several tests show it is just a accurate as hornady or ppu.

For plinking I prefer anything with brass casing. For sd/hd Federal HST's or hydra-shok.

Difficult no, dangerous... it very well could be IF you don't follow directions.

I have been loading for about 38 years and have never had an accident or malfunction other then a few deeply set primers that failed to ignite, not a big deal you just break them down and reload them again. Those were all in 35 Remington for a T/C Contender.

It's never dangerous until the user/loader becomes impatient or ignorant and tries to either skip steps or not pay attention to what they are doing (I.e TV is on and they load a couple rounds while in "autopilot". While not really paying attention, they could put powder in the case twice and case a kaboom). Essentially, as long as you pay attention to what you are doing and you know what processes you should be doing, it's not dangerous.

Pistol calibers are easier to reload for IMO. For pistols, you do not need to do much for brass. For rifle brass, you need to check a couple other things, and it doesn't really add that much time, but it's not as easy as pistol stuff.

I only load my own. ALL of my guns from the past year now (since I started loading) have gotten nothing but my reloads. It's a pleasure not having to buy factory ammo and I personally find reloading entertaining since it allows me to shoot more later.

There is a reloading sub forum here on calguns too and there should be a sticky with some more info on everything.

Ive honestly never had ammo issues in all my years. 22s, pistols, rifles, shotguns. Steel case, brass, old stuff, cheap stuff...... All good so far!

I use Golden Saber's in my .45 for defense. Whatever else for practice, mostly WWB in the same weight.

Looking into something different for my 9mm XD subcompact when I get it out of jail, maybe Gold Dots, or Fed HST...been doing some research on them.

Regarding 223/556, the best stuff I've heard about is the Black Hills 77gr. OTM and TMK. It's the stuff people usually refer to as the MK262 Mod 1 and I think it's probably the best factory ammo you can buy in that caliber from what I've read. I have a case of it on the way right now. The round uses the Sierra Open-Tip Match King or the Sierra Tipped Match King bullet, depending on which version you get. Supposed to be awesome stuff. It's also a legit military service round.

For regular range use I go with XM193 from Lake City/Federal.

For pistol, I only shoot 1911s so I'm only familiar with the various .45 ACP out there. I typically stick to Federal.
