Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I am gonna have to become friends with a ranch owner, drive half a day, or pay. I did move here for a good job, I have no intent on staying in this state if that job every goes away. The weather is nice here, but when you grow up with seasons it makes plain vanilla sun seem boring.

That is not something you often hear, but I totally agree. The monotony of blue skies and sunshine in the Bay Area every frickin' day bores the hell out of me.

Today, finally, we get clouds and (much needed) rain. One day of it. Then it will be back to more sunshine and lollipops.
