Guns direct in Burbank - Refused to handle PPT
Collapse

I had good experiences with them doing out-of-state transfers. Seemed like nice guys to me and provided good service. They hooked me up with a magazine butt-plate for free when I needed one.
Not doing a PPT is inexcusable... but since I had a great experience with them before, I personally would give them a second chance, but I would also ask about "the PPT refusal I read about on CalGuns" to hear their side. Plus, that way they know that their service is being scrutinized online by the community.Comment

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience there, OP. I've been a customer for three years and have had nothing but excellent service from friendly staff. I've done two PPTs at Guns Direct and both were flawless transactions."A vote is like a rifle; it's usefulness depends upon the character of the user." - Theodore RooseveltComment

I would probably call and report them, that is a violation of the provisions of the license.sigpic

They are required by law to give you a copy on demand. Also had a bad experience with the store despite having bought several guns from them. I lost my copy of dros so went over to request a photocopy (gun was only bought three months ago). They refused to give me one saying they have all paperwork in a bin and not arranged. I offered to help find my dros but they rejected. They instead told me to go ask doj for a copy. Very very poor customer service. I am no longer coming back to them for my business.

It totally sucks that gun stores force their customers to report them to DOJ in order for the store to do what's required by law.Comment

I did a PPT of a built-up AR lower there with no issue and they have always otherwise been professional. You should complain to the owner/manager before the DOJ (unless, of course, it WAS the owner/manager who you were dealing with).
That said, I did an out-of-state transfer through Aegis and I liked them as well. Not as "pro," but very nice people to deal with.Comment

In all the years I've done PPTs, I've only come across one other time when a store flat out refused a PPT. It was a transfer of a S&W 500 mag at Turners in Reseda. They claimed that LA city prohibits the transfer of .50 caliber weapons within city limits. I had done other PPTs at that specific Turner location without issue (albiet very slow) so i took their word on it. The seller and I drove down to Retting in Culver City out of LA city limits and completed the PPT without issue.
The interaction with the Gun Direct staff (my first) wasn't overtly negative or positive. They were not rude. The gentleman (within earshot of 2 other staff members) simply didn't want to do the PPT and kept making execuses. If i recall, when i asked flat out a second time that they are refusing to PPT 2 revolvers, he said it was store policy set by the owner due to limited space in their safes. But this came after a number of other execuses. They flat out refused to PPT 2 revolves. I would likely have debated the issues on principle but at that point i didnt feel comfortable to leave my colt revolvers with them. It wasn't a huge inconveience as both the seller (a friend) and i are local. It was just more of a disappointment and a bit of a shock given the shop appears well stocked, clean with plenty of staff.
Calgunners and dealers that know me can attest to my insatiable appitite for this hobby. I am a LGS best friend.
I posted my experience simply to warn others calgunners in case they are traveling long distances for a PPT with a unknow party at Guns Direct. I hope my experience was isolated and they improve their customer service.
Colossians323 made a good point. Great and consistant customer service is critical. Riflegear is a prime example in my opinion. Great and consistent customer serice not to mention good price and inventory.Last edited by ehair; 10-26-2014, 10:52 AM.Comment

Turner's was correct. Since Sept. 2002, it is illegal to transfer any .50 cal firearm in the City of Los Angeles. In all the years I've done PPTs, I've only come across one other time when a store flat out refused a PPT. They are required to give a copy of dros on demand at time of transaction not months or years later when you lose original. FUD.Comment

Probably to stop all those gang bangers from buying a .50AE Desert Eagle locally.
I suspect most shops absolutely despise PPT; state mandating what they can charge, why that's Un-Americun...Comment
