I'm the fourth generation to take possesion of this Model 11. The tale tells that my great grandfather ordered it from the Sears and Roebuck catalog in 1923 for under five bucks.

I have one of those too and with a similar story. Been used to support my family through The Great Depression until now. It still is my preferred hunting shotgun.

These knives were passed down with the gun. Who knows how many animals they've butchered. The crazy part is they are still razor sharp. I accidentally sliced my finger the first time handling them.

Here is another working gun that fits the theme here I guess....
Another Model 11. This one was purchased new in 1947 by my great grandfather, for my grandfather. It is in my safe now. My grandfather decimated the local dove poplation with it.
It is a 16 gauge.Last edited by Bainter1212; 03-16-2017, 7:01 PM.Comment

My Ithaca-manufactured WWII vintage M1911:

My father bought it through the NRA around 1960 (back when the CMP was handing out handguns). As with the CMP today you never knew what you were going to get. Like all true military small arms, it rattles when you shake it.
This is our beater office AR-15:

It doesn't look all beat up, but we have been taking it out shooting every month for a few years now and it has had many thousands of rounds through it and we never clean it. This single specimen really changed my opinion about AR-15s.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

That is art man, the "idiot scratch" adds to the beauty.

My EDC 1911. It's uh, been around the block a little bit.

And with different grips and the Surefire mount:

But there's a happy ending to this story. Got tired of fanatically keeping after rust, so I got it Cerakoted. Won't be long before it looks the way it did.

This is my Appleseed LTR loaner rifle. It's also the first firearm I ever bought.
Got it from Big 5 in 1993 for $99. I "learned" on it, beat on it for fifteen years, then really learned on it at Appleseed.
After that, it became my dedicated loaner. That means it gets thrown in the truck every month, rain or shine, sometimes it gets taken out and used, sometimes not. Usually gets used by brand new folks. Muzzle gets stuck in the sand once in a while, who knows what kind of ammo it gets fed, gets rained on, got snowed on a few times...
Over the years it's seen around 60,000 rounds -- I didn't keep good records before 2002, not sure -- and it's a bit dinged up. You can't see the scratches and rust spots in the photo but there's a couple. I'm on my third firing pin and second bolt, had to upgrade to a DIP trigger group after the original fell apart, only the second action spring. Worn out about five magazines. That's the third sling I've had on it, after wearing out a 1907-type.
It's not an awesome rifle. The trigger creeps and the action binds if you tighten the screws too much, it'll FTE once in a while and mag changes require both hands. But it runs. I can throw down and shoot a Rifleman score with it right now, any time, anywhere.
It is also kind of nice having a rifle that doesn't have to stay pretty. I shoot all my rifles -- no safe queens, not even the pretty ones -- but this one I can literally let a teenager take for a test drive without getting all fluttery.
