I think display cases are fine in more rural settings. In more urban settings, display cases can be fine depending on the rest of the security.

Let's face it, they're just guns. Thousands of people drive classic cars that need nothing more than a screwdriver to hotwire, and they park their cars, use the built in lock, and go about their business. How many people do you know that have $1000+ dollar entertainment systems sitting in their living room? Or a few hundred dollars spread over a few bottles of booze? Or a $1000+ dollar laptop they leave sitting on the table at Starbucks while they go to take a leak?

Lock your house, lock your windows, lock your guns. You've done your due diligence. If your house gets broken into and your guns get stolen, tell the police, file an insurance claim for the guns and everything else that went missing, bemoan the loss of rare (or 'rare') collectibles and move on.

Exactly. If you have to hide everything you own in your own house, it's not much of a home.

There are 2 types of weapons. Old School, well-taken care of, beautiful guns, made for exhibition. I personally thing thos should be exhibited, but new, working, self defense weapons should be kept safe.

I have a limited edition revolver that is in a nice display case, but the whole thing is locked in a safe. I see it when I open the safe, but would not trust leaving it out unlocked when I am not home.

That's the reason I don't buy that beautiful Colt SAA Sheriff's collection that for sale on CG!

I would consider one of these to display older less expensive firearms. I think I would make them "limp" somehow so they couldn't be fired if they were stolen.

I'd say no unless his house is heavily gated (im talking prince williams type $%7^) and it was A or a few display guns, but it sounds like all he owns is on display. So IMO, stupid idea.


I thought about making an above the fireplace AR bracket or O/U hanger but thats about it. Again ony for A firearm, but even then still not the best of ideas. Especially if its a lot of them.

Worst idea ever. I'm getting a fridge box to go over the safe in the garage. Out of sight has a lot better chance of surviving a robbery. Any gun worth displaying is a gun I wouldn't risk.

I keep all of my guns in safes, which are bolted to the floor. It would be nice to have a display case, but these days it isn't something I would do. Unless of course you shorten and replace the firing pins to make them inoperable, when you leave your house. You just never know when the government may try to frame you for murder

Personally, I wouldn't put my collection on display. Rookies will take the easy score. Veterans will see the smoke and look for the fire.

If someone takes the time to make a display case, but "shows off" an unimpressive collection? Who you kidding?

On the other hand, if it's fully insured, go for it. Jewelry stores do it all the time. The items they leave on display when the store is closed are the items that are full insured. Everything else goes into the safe. However, I doubt anyone here has anything as expensive as their safes.
