    Gun/Display cabinets...wise idea?

Recently went to a new friend's place and discovered he was a gun enthusiast. He had a display cabinet of glass with a simple lock showing off a few shotguns, a couple of ARs, AKs, some pistols and an old lever action rifle. Everything was beautifully displayed but I'm wondering if this is a smart idea or something other cal gunners do?

I see mostly talk of buying the big steel gun cases here. He lives in an extremely safe area so that might have something to do with it as well.

it depends... I might have some in there, but my main safe would stay locked and out of sight.

Put the cheap guns in there so they get stolen, and the nice ones get left alone

Get a display case with a type 99 Arisaka drill rifle... One of the ones that can load and fire (explosively!) regular ammunition... More seriously no. I wouldn't trust that one but. Maybe if they were mock firearms- I see a lot of wallhanger milsurps with bits of pipe instead of an actual receiver and the like. I'd display those no problem.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

If you had a nice sports car would you feel safe installing a glass garage door?

Im at my Grandmothers in Texas. When her husband built this house, a gun case with a glass front was part of the built in furniture.

I have antiques on display, the serious hardware goes in the safe.

I am 55 years old and when I was growing up in Phoenix, Arizona, displaying firearms in a home was very common, and all my relatives in Washington State did the same. I miss those days, because many discussions were started over the firearms on display. Today, in both Phoenix and Washington State it appears, the standard is to keep them out of sight and locked up.

Same here -- old guns in an antique case and on the wall.

As long as he's confident, run with it. Living in fear is no way to live.

Id love to have all my rifles hanging on my walls. Just don't want to take the chance.
I used to have my 22's hanging in my garage. Ive since moved and don't really have the wall space anymore.

i'll agree with this. i think this fear is something akin to the new concealed carrier freaking out about printing...

Never, some dumass mentions to another dumass you have guns and results in a break in. Not interested in people in my house uninvited for ANY reason.
Why lure them in with fakes or replicas?
