The lab I was at for a while had lots and lots of those crummy guns come in, not as many as the Jennings/Raven/Bryco stuff, but more than you'd expect these days. We also had some really cool stuff come in once in a big while. Then there was crazy like the 4" barrelled 20gauge (!) sawed-off.
The tape they use for wiring back in the late 40s wasn't the "rubberized" electrical tape they have now. It was a black non-conductive fabric tape. So, Clemenza was correct in the fact that they couldn't get prints off of fabric back then.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

Very true. It had an almost dry abrasive feel to it. It gripped well.

Yeah, I remember that stuff (friction tape).. turned gooey in a few years. In the movie, it was the vinyl kind (if I remember right) in the picture. Of course, back then they also didnt have near the fingerprint tech of today (CA fuming, lasers, etc).

1957 Disney film covers it pretty well - They have also fallen and would never make such a freedom celebrating film today.

Thanks OP, most of these gun collection photo threads make me feel pretty bad about my collection. This one doesn't give me gun envy...

James, you always seem to find the obscure.

                ^^^ Decolingy,
I am first to admit I could be mistaken because it's been awhile since I've been in that area..

but I specifically meant the City of Boston. (That's what this thread was about guns taken by the Boston Police.)
I apologize if I did not make that more clear.
re-reading what I wrote I could see how you could make the mistake you made.

it is also pretty obvious ....
just like every state in the Union you have the cities, suburbs and the more rural small towns, now in those small towns it is easier.
I believe that to be the case in a lot, if not most, of states in the Union.

but go back to wherever you found your statistics (I could look up my own but let's just use your source.) and compare the town of Boston (the state capital of Massachusetts) to Sacramento (the state capital of California) and tell me who has more concealed weapons permits issued per capita of course so that it is fair. (although I believe that population numbers are not that far apart.)

and again as stated in my first sentence I could be wrong ...

                let's see.

I understand it is not unexpected that a bad guys gun may not go bang. Even wrong ammo being used.
