Can Parallax have someone else do the silver braze? -yes, they could hire an outside gunsmith to do it!

People learn differently and younger people who have grown up with internet would certainly disagree that you can't learn a skill like gun smithing online. I can get a PHD online but I can't learn gun smithing? Please!

Hey Doc Hawk/chicanomarine (I thought CalGuns rules only allow one login per member) still waiting for that photo of the paperwork showing proof you were a customer of mine like you posted....... In fact if I remember the "buddy" you posted about got his rifle fully finished, hugely discounted and on top of that did additional work for him FREE ...... funny how you forgot to post that.

Your marine buddies (some of them happy customers of mine btw) have told me how you are telling other marines made up stories about how I screwed up fictional rifles for friends of yours. If you want to go to court just say so instead of making up stories, I tried to leave you alone but you just can't help yourself it seems.

Btw those 2 "bad" reviews on Yelp were yours and Yelp removed them completely for lack of proof and violating TOS, the 3rd is actually posted by a local gun shop using one of the owner's personal accounts.

        Everyone else:

First read what I actually posted in this thread ......... if a competitor gives praise and says good things about the competition is that considered inappropriate?

NONE of my customers have ever been "screwed" and all my customers have received there items back completed as per estimate, except one with a bad stock full of bondo that after 6 months I gave up on repairing it (even gave him the Cerakote on the rifle for FREE). Yes there has been serious delays and some breaks in communication with some of my customers due to being seriously ill. I have personally met each customer, apologized, returned their items completed per estimate and in one case personally driving all the way to Riverside to hand over parts.

I am a one man show and easily get overworked because my customers know of the quality of my work and I get overloaded frequently, with my health issues not helping any. I have since started fixing some problems by hiring someone to be in charge of communicating directly to customers starting December.

I am not perfect but I definitely try to make every effort to make amends with my customers. There is not one single customer I have that can say they did not automatically get a serious discount on their completed work if there was any long delay.

        OP

Sorry about all this unfortunately there is a few CalGunners that feel they have to constantly attack me, that I will stop posting if they just harass me on every post I make. I will stop responding to posts here to unclutter your post and again sorry that some CalGunners are what they are.

Yeah, they should have sent the brazing out to a professional brazer. ThermalVac Technologies is in Orange County is one. However their work is too good I guess. Or they could have sent it cross town to Gunsmith Dan if they could wait, hopefully not 5.5 weeks.

Gunsmithing is not brazing. Brazing is an advanced level of gunsmithing if at all. I am not a gunsmith, just someone who welds or brazes parts for gunsmiths. The best gunsmith I know is too busy doing what they know best and that is not welding or brazing.

sending someone to "gunsmithing school" online is a joke. no wonder Parallax failed at the job the OP wanted done.

the way i see it, PT is trying to save face; this will either gain them new customers or make them lose potential customers.
UCSC SLUG you have no idea of my past. I was an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Navy and worked on guns daily where I gained a wealth of knowledge not only about guns, ordinance.

                    1) $60 is a fair price as the nationally recognized normal labor time for doing Silver Soldering of a front sight at 1 hour of labor. That would include setup, cleaning and sanding the area and bottom of sight, brazing, clean up, using a silver solder blackening agent to color blend, and doing a pull test to make sure it is attached properly (my charge would of been $70 on a single barrel)

                    2) $60 is not a fair price for doing epoxy as it is a nationally recognized labor time of 1/2 hour and whether or not silver solder was available from Brownells (which btw there is many vendors that carry silver solder and for a business to rely on just one vendor for critical supplies is never good) the customer should of been told and given a discount right off the bat.

I have in the past sent a lot of my customers that wanted ARs built to Parallax as I did not have the time and because the profit margin is to low unless you do volume. Parallax is a great place to go for custom built ARs and they definitely specialize in that and no one I sent to them for ARs has ever complained to me about Parallax.

but I must voice a cause of concern when a person trained as a armorer (sorry but just because someone uses a file or drills holes for pin and weld does not make them a gunsmith) is doing Silver Soldering with the only experience being watching a video. Silver Soldering should be done by someone who is experienced as it is one of the few things you can do on a firearm to turn a safe to shoot firearm into a unsafe firearm. In fact in most true gunsmithing shops only after doing MANY test silver solders on sheet steel with a thermometer showing they know how to control their temps consistently would they be allowed to ever silver solder on a barrel.

I post this as a concerned professional gunsmith because this should be something that shops should be sending out to experienced professionals to do. I also take issue when people interchange armorer and gunsmith as being the same profession and level of training/experience as they are not even close.
You criticized while publicizing yourself as a competitor.

No one is attacking you. You should take responsibility when you post comments, criticize, and again especially when you advertise as a competitor. I would've never mentioned it if you were commenting as a user on this forum and nothing more, but you decided to advertise your business while you were commenting. Accept the consequences.

I will agree that the OP shouldn't have to deal with the altered direction of this thread, but in some ways it may be a benefit.

I have given out FREE advise to many, many members here on CalGuns over the years as a CalGuns member not a business owner. I have always sided on this side of safety and even been attacked as being "too safe" in my advice. I as a professional and a member of CalGuns do have a duty to make sure the correct information is presented when it comes to firearm safety. I had in the beginning posted I am a competitor (in gunsmithing not sales) so that no one would accuse me of hiding that fact.

Your comments were pure attack as my having health issues and delaying for a few weeks the return of customer's firearms is not even the same as concerns on work done to a firearm being done in safe manner.

Totally different situations and unfortunately you decided to take the low road in your comments just to attack me, how unfortunate and sad.
We appreciate the advice. I think to settle things between everyone on this thread, I propose the following:

                      1) We will pay for the OP to take his shotgun barrel to you for silver soldering
                      2) Please silver solder his barrel
                      3) Send the bill to us, or we can pre-pay you to do the work.
                      4) We can handle the shipping and return.

Is this agreeable to the internet?

Sincerely "Gunsmith Dan" why don't you follow your own advice from this point on. It'll make your life much easier. Create another ID without revealing what you do, (if CG accepts another ID), and give out all the advice you want. Just don't bring up your business in a public forum while you're participating at that capacity.

                              3) Send the bill to us, or we can pre-pay you to do the work.
                              4) We can handle the shipping and return.

Is this agreeable to the internet?
OP if I were you, I would ask Parallax to pay for Randall Rausch at ar15barrels to do the work.
