Maybe a supply and demand thing? As far as I know, sales have leveled off.
Try and find a local FFL that just does transfers. We have Gussler's out here that works from his home. Last I was there, it was the standard $35 plus $25 if DROS is involved

Yea some places charge an arm and a leg, when I first wanted to transfer a gun I got prices like you posted. About $100 to $150 was the norm.

I called rifle gear the other day and they want $85 for a transfer fee including DROS. Aka $50 + DROS fees.
For Sale: AR500 Lvl III+ ASC Armor

Obviously your having a firearm shipped so They can charge what they wish. If it was ftf it would be $35 max total. Plus hsc if you needed to get one.

My FFL in San Jose charges $50 for transfer + DROS. Seems to be the best you're going to find these days.

Mount Pleasant Arms in San Jose is $40.00 plus DROS. Call Rob Blank in Milpitas at 408-946-5287. I don't know what he charges for transfers but he has always been good with the purchases I've made with him. He's closer to you too.

There is no max fee, when the firearm is shipped.

^^ Read what I posted where does it say shipped. Then read my post number 4. Where I say shipped ffl can charge what they wish.

                        I concur with RabidFuzzle!

if you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, then "San Jose gun trader" is the place to go.
because its a home based FFL you just call or send an email to Tim or Blair & set up an appointment,
so there's very little chance to no chance of waiting in line behind someone who's buying (or asking endless questions about) gun cases, slings, scopes or other accessories.

and there may be cheaper places out there somewhere in California, but in our area for quick one on one service they are the best I have found.

and he's a vendor here on Calguns so while you're there doing the transfer you can take a look at his other stock knowing that any purchase you make is from a Calguns "family" member.

here's a link to his posting about his current stock.

If it's a FTF transfer, it's set by state law at $35.

Below is a link from OC Firearms and what they charge. From what I recall, these prices are pretty close to what OC Armory and Rifle Gear charges also.

In my experience, for a new gun, you can bypass the extra $$$ for the transfer fee if you have your LGS order the handgun from the distributor. I did just that and it arrived 2 days after I placed my order. I paid SSE and DROS and I was good to go.

South City Pawn at South San Francisco, its $65 + dros. Im picking up a P64 on Monday, will ask about PPT and other relevant gun questions, and maybe do a little write up about the place.

I used to use them when they were cheaper. Now I use Mike Weiss at Kinetic Energy Tools. He covers SF to SJ.
