Have you read the manual that came with the gun? I may have something to say on the subject.

yes i did read the manual,
here it is, quoted
"Grip the ribbing on the slide with your free hand, pull it back to its stop(it may need to be unlocked) and let it shoot out.
"You can alternatively let the already opened slide shoot out by pressing down the slide-catch"Comment

Many / most pistols have stiff slide stops when new. Both of my M&P's were nearly impossible to drop the lever from a locked slide when new. Put 1,000 rounds through it and it will break in nicely.Comment

All of my pistols have a slide stop, not a release.Comment

The slide release in my Gen 2 Glock 21 is apparently located in the bottom of the magazine
Guess it's time to replace the one on the frame.Comment

Than why do you keep calling it a slide release button...it's not even a button.
The easy way to check why it might not be locking back on the last round is shooting it left handed. If it still won't lock back, it is likely underpowered ammo...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

I've been doing a lot of power slide as of late. As mentioned, some have locks, some have lock/releases."If he won't walk, walk him...be nice"

I almost always use the slide release unless the pistol just doesn't have one---like say a Walther PP or TPH.
I don't know how much you've shot your Sig, but I would first try real factory ammo---a couple of different brands---your pistol my simply not be broken-in yet and the reloads could be lower powered. The slide release will probably loosen at bit as well after a bit of shooting.
Having spent MANY years in the firearms business, I would ALWAYS refuse to send a gun back to the factory unless I tested it first and confirmed a real problem---99% of the time the pistol worked fine in my hands...Comment
