    .416 Barret

    Today I fired a .416 Barret.

I found that it is pretty damn accurate and a very good replacement to the now banned .50 caliber rifles/rounds.

    Today I was happi :>

First, all .50cal rifles are not banned and non-pyrotechnic .50cal rounds are not banned either. The ban only applies to rifles that will chamber a standard 50BMG round. There are several other .50cal options available. The most common being rifles chambered in a .510DTC variant.

Since you fired a .416 Barrett and say it's "accurate", could you please clarify that by explaining your definition of "accurate". I've seen more than a few shooters think that they were very "accurate" when shooting 6 moa groups and other shooters who think that .5 moa is only average. What kind of accuracy are you refering to?

Im not too fond of the looks of the model 99, although, Ive never seen one in person - and CWS is too far north for me to go visit. MAYBE it will be at the Del Mar show .... I might have to go

I would rather see an M82 built for .50 DTC then .416 Barrett. This is do-able right now but I guess that Barrett isn't interested. I'm sure there's also another reason but I'll leave that out of this discussion.

The .416 uses a 396grn bullet that leaves the muzzle at 3290fps. At 1000yrds it's still traveling at 2054fps. That's a big bullet with a flat trajectory for a .41 cal.
My BIL used one on antelope at 800yrds. He says the bullet goes all the way through with very little meat damage, and makes em DRT. They got bored and used it on some prairie dogs too, those exploded.
He said the accuracy is unreal, you do your part and the BORS scope does the rest. I couldn't afford the ammo, much less the rifle and scope!

It's crazy expensive to shoot, but I've seen a lot of good things about it. Being able to cold-bore hit a 10 ring at 2500 yards is more than enough to show it's accuracy potential. . . period.

Ok, lets not get too ahead of ourselves here. A coldbore shot in the 10 ring at almost 1 1/2 miles is pretty unrealistic.

yeah, but I saw a video when Barrett was releasing it and amongst all the techno-jargon of how they developed the round, they had a guy shoot the .416 and a .50 BMG. The .50BMG hit the paper, but it took two more shots to walk it up into the 10 ring. The .416 hit it on the first. Now, I'm not going to say that he could do it EVERY time, but it's still impressive to say the least.

                              A .416 at 100. What a waste of $$
