Range Idiots

I am glad that I usually have the range I shoot at all to myself. When I really feel like being alone I head out to BLM. I hate indoor ranges.

Someone pointing laser pointers at me at a gun range or most anywhere would lose their laser pointers.

Yep. One warning and if it happened again, I would have crushed all their pointers under my boot. No ifs, ands, or buts.

So yesterday at the range, a kid and his mom set up in the lane next to me. The whole time the mom is halfway in my lane, halfway in his, taking pictures of him at every possible angle and invading my space (sorry but when I have a gun in my hand if you could at least be a foot or two away from me, I'd appreciate it). While that was a minor annoyance, all of the sudden I hear this kid empty a whole magazine at rapid fire pace. Everyone around the them gave them looks, and luckily the guy in the lane to the left of him told him he was startling people and to not do it again.

But I mean how stupid do you have to be to do that? I don't even want to know how old this kid was or where his handgun experience stems from, but you could tell his mom was only accompanying him so they'd let him shoot. Wish the RO was there to lay in to him but I couldn't spot him.


Oh and another thing - I was reloading mags when I see this red dot laser sight go just left of my head, coming from behind me. At a gun range, you can probably imagine how uneasy that would make someone feel. I turn around and there's this group of kids with laser pointers messing around and pointing them at me through the glass window.

I was definitely ready to call it a day after that. Since I'm a member there now, I'm kind of tempted to say something next time I come in, but I think it would have been most appropriate to handle the situation while I was there. So I think I learned a lesson in timing at least.

You should have pointed your pistol at those dumbarse kids and see if they still laugh. I hate stupid young kids these days. So damn disrespecting.

Not sure what the problem is with the rapid fire shooters if they are getting everything on paper. If not, then that's a huge problem.

Went to a range a couple months ago. It was a very quiet Friday, late in the day and not too many shooters around. A guy comes up, sets down bolt action rifle two benches down. Second thing I notice is no hearing protection. The RO was right on it. Sent him to the office to purchase hearing protection. The guy comes back. The RO asked him what he planned to shoot? "My rifle". RO asked to see the ammo, matched it to the rifle, asked if he ever cleaned the rifle. "No". Asked if he had a cleaning kit, got an affirmative, proceeded to teach the guy how to run patches with solvent down bore. Once that was done he made the guy wait so he could get back to doing some RO duties. Another RO was supposed to go home but stayed to help out. First RO went back to the guy. Had him fire the rifle once, then again, eventually sighted it in at 25 yards with 5 shots. Made the guy run a couple more patches down the bore. The string was over, he made the guy get away from the bench, walk down to the 100 yard benches and hang his target when the proper time came. The guy came back and we talked: Picked up his rifle yesterday, shooting it today, hunting tomorrow.

Even the most dense observers could tell this was a bunch of "firsts" for this guy. I was an inch away from packing up but didn't because he moved about 20 benches down and was being well supervised. Just couldn't figure out how he could think gun handling was such a casual thing.

Same RO was very calm with another shooter a while before. The guy showed up with his AR. Shot a couple of strings, packed up. When cease fire was called the guy left the magazine in his AR. He had fired his last round so when the RO say the magazine inserted he asked him to remove it. Panic! Out of rounds, empty magazine, not bullet button "defeater". Got a chuckle out of watching his buddy open up his ammo stash, open a new box, hand him a round to remove the magazine. All the time the entire line is waiting to check, change, or retrieve their targets.

Most rapid fire shooters - like three quarters of them - aren't hitting anything except the backstop, walls and ceiling.

No, they typically end up also hitting the target hangers, lights, rails for the targets, and other people's targets at indoor ranges as well.

I was at a range I frequent, down checking my target at the 50 yard line (range was cold), when a individual came onto the range and started shooting at a target to my left. I made a thread about it on here somewhere. That was a joyful incident.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of how to conduct oneself at a gun range.

Take as many pictures as you want, do it in a safe manner; don't be a ****ing democrat about it.

lol, I don't go to public ranges often and I have had my own targets shot by shooters on neighboring lanes. I also cut the crap out of my hand once on a shot target hanger at Bullseye in San Rafael. I had just gotten there and went to clip my target and someone had put a round right through it and left some very jagged edges. Was pretty pissed about that.

The indoor range a mile from me has bullet holes in EVERY part of the ceiling including straight up from the firing line. They have no rule about rapid fire. I've seen people in there rapid firing an AR and not putting many holes in a large silhouette target 15 away. I got there today just as they were renting a Glock 17 to a couple of young girls who MIGHT not have had much shooting experience. They came over to the guy next to me a few minutes later asking how to clear a jam. At least they had the sense to leave the gun at their lane. That range makes me nervous at times--but it's a mile away.

Angeles range. Group of 6. Popping ar15s. Didn't put up their mesh screen to block the spent case. Guess where one case went! In my freaking shirt! looked over they didn't give a rays *** so I went and grabbed the screen and put it up for them and they look at me like I'm the ***
