Should I hide my guns serial numbers?

I have a YouTube channel, and I always cover my guns serial numbers. Is it really that big of a deal, or am I just being paranoid? What could someone do with my serial numbers?

    Thanks for the input!

Yes, you should scratch them off with a file.

      Lol great advice
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"

Sounds good, I don't see any problems there.

I'd cover them. I'd worry that someone is going to pull something you'd never think of. The only thing I can think of is that someone would say "I had gun WH567XXX stolen" and then a week later say "Hey, now this guys got it on Youtube. Or course that won't work very well if you've got transfers, etc, with ATF and he doesn't. Someone, somewhere, will come up with some scheme.

for guns here in CA i doubt it is an issue, i believe no info can be found on you through a guns serial # by any regular joe

the only legit concern ive seen voiced on it, is for older guns bought cash and carry or firearms in states that require no registration or DROS to be completed where someone could possibly call the police stating the firearms is theirs and that it is stolen (kind of an out there scenario imo, but i guess possible)

They could, but then again if they did: they have to file a police report stating the details of the theft; and since the gun is not in their possession, they'd have to provide some proof that the firearm in question is really theirs; and then on top of that, if PD or SD actually took some action on it, confronted the possessor of the firearm with the allegation - and that party produced proof that the firearm really IS his/hers, the maker of the false report would be in for a little, unpleasant surprise.

You're just being paranoid. Unless you found, stole, or bought the gun on the street. In that case, the gun's rightful owner might be able to identify it as his or her lost or stolen gun.

                      Nothing.

If the FUD Patrol shows up and starts telling you all the frightening things that could happen if your gun's serial number showed up in a picture, ask them to cite an actual instance of that actually happening.

537e. (a) Any person who knowingly buys, sells, receives, disposes of, conceals, or has in his or her possession any personal property from which the manufacturer's serial number, identification number, electronic serial number, or any other distinguishing number or identification mark has been removed, defaced, covered, altered, or destroyed, is guilty of a public offense

Though this section doesn't specifically mention firearms, it appears to be illegal.

Nothing. There is no reason to hide your serial numbers.

Now, your car license number, on the other hand, is a different story, as you can learn by reading this rather frightening article.

OP - what's your youtube channel? I searched a bit for Rimack channels but didn't find anything that even came close to having serial numbers on them.
