*Need Info* FFL07 Local requirements

So I'm interested in obtaining my FFL07 to build and possibly sell a few guns. It may lead into a bit of custom smithing, finishing blah, blah, blah.

I sent off for the paperwork from the BATFE. I received it yesterday but it doesn't have any suggestions or instructions as to what is needed on a local level.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to what I may need? FYI: I'm in Santa Cruz County.

After Feds, you need CA license see PC 12085/86

(2) No license shall be granted by the department unless and until the applicant presents proof that he or she has all of the following:

(A) A valid license to manufacture firearms issued pursuant to Chapter 44 (commencing with Section 921) of Title 18 of the United States Code.

(B) Any regulatory or business license, or licenses, required by local government.

(C) A valid seller's permit or resale certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization, if applicable.

(D) A certificate of eligibility issued by the Department of Justice pursuant to paragraph (4) of subdivision (a) of Section 12071.

Call the county and ask about new businesses. They're usually happy to let you pay for new licenses, and Planning can help you with zoning laws and such.

So the ATF has to issue you your 07 license first. Correct? So you could be a licensed 07 FFL and NOT be licensed to sell in California, correct?

So what happens if you want to prototype firearms and not sell them commercially? Can you get your 07 manufacturer's license and create protoypes without dealing with CA DOJ since you wouldn't be entering into a commercial sales with the license?

My understanding is you won't get the 07 FFL unless you have local approval...meaning CLEO if you live in a city, Sheriff if you dont. You wont get local approval unless you meet local city/county regulations to such things as zoning. I never completed the process, but this was the info I was able to gather.

Ok quick break down.
1) Local business license. Some require you to have your FFL 1st that sucks.
2) resale license. These are from the Board of equalization no problem getting one.
3)FFL Longest thing to wait for.
4)California centralized list
5)Any local firearms permit (usuallly from local CLEO) If none is needed you need a letter stating that.
Once you receive your FFL you have 30 days to mail proof to the feds that you have complied with all local laws. These are business licenses so you have to make a profit in some way shape or form.

Just a side note did you already receive you FFL in the mail? Your examiner should have gone over this stuff with you.

No, he got the license app. Santa Cruz county..........I think they would rather have you grow a pot plantation than build guns. That place is backwards, not as bad as San Francisco.........yet. Remember that guy who torched S.L.V.H.S. library only got 1 year.

No, I just received the 07 application from BATFE. It was just the application papers, fingerprint cards and fingerprint card instructions. Crap! what county agency do I contact to get all this stuff started??

If you are in county rather than any city, contact SC Co Planning Department to start. http://www.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/ (in my previous post, the word "Planning" referred to the Department, not the general activity )
