How fast do you go through ammo?

Hit the range with a buddy of mine this morning. He went through 200 rounds of 9mm, 250 rounds of .223, 75 rounds of .45, and a handful of .22 in less than 2.5 hours.
I managed to shoot 100 rounds of 9mm, 100 rounds of .223, and about 170 rounds of .22 in 4 hours. I've always been big on conserving ammo, while not hoarding it. So, I usually do the following:

-Take out the bolt guns over my semi-autos
-Only bring 1 magazine per gun (I own plenty, but never bring more than 1)
-Pick up brass after every magazine
    -Check my target frequently
    -Work on form, stance, etc.

In combination, this saves me ammo.

I am curious though...how fast to do guys, and gals, blow through ammo?

I make a few shot's 20 at the most look at my targets and go home. Saves me time, $$, ammo and firearm cleaning time. 22's are a little different maybe 100-200 rounds.

I try not to go through more than 3-4 magazines per weapon. Especially rifle. Rarely bring out more than 3-4 guns.
Never mag dump. Not even with .22.
We usally shoot skeet at the end.
I only shoot outdoors and it's usually hot. We also have our kids with us so they only last an hour 2 playing in the dirt or the trucks.

Never more than I can afford. Usually 50 rds centerfire at a time. Use a bolt action 22 a lot and enjoy the time with it.

just recently i started loading only 3-5 rounds in my AR mags when i go shooting. for some reason, i tend to take my time with each shot more than when i have a 10 round mag.

regardless, at the end of each shooting session, on average i've gone through roughly 100+ AR rounds, 50+ handgun rounds and maybe 50 shotgun rounds....
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.
AR's have finally become full blown "men's barbie dolls" now with fashion accessories.

Well if I'm shooting I'm shooting and go through many rds.

But there are days I go to concentrate on how I shoot, so much less on those days, as little as 50-100 rds.

This is outdoor, when at indoor, I'll shoot a little more, as it's A/C and also range fee's so spend a little more time there to justify my costs.

Is there an official shooting day yet ?

I now just take my guns to the range to unpack them, set up targets, clean said guns and then pack up and go back home. I don't even take ammo. Saves me plenty of time/money.

I sense a bit of sarcasm. Personally I see no reason to shoot tons of ammo at a sheet of paper.I do tend to shoot much more when I go to the desert though.

                  more than most

I shoot about 400 a week. 200 during the week and 200 on Sunday at the local match. Sometimes a bit more depending on who wants to go test that week..

I just don't go shooting. Guns and ammo are like my 401k and I do t want to pay any penalties for taking money out.

OP I do the same as you..... One mag and the rest of it. Really take my time.

I count 4 seconds in my head before every shot. I also take my time to mark 3ach hole on my target. I also only load 6 rounds in my glock 26 at a time. Ammo is getting expensive these days

Last time I went shooting out in the Mojave area I shot maybe 100 rounds of 22 and 5 rounds 25 cal rifle, 32 rounds or so of 45's maybe 10 rounds of 308 and I brought home everyone else's brass. Lots of it.

since my ranges are far away that let me shoot Wolf, Tulammo, etc... I usually save up for a while ~500 rounds and just let all hang out.

When I used to have time to get to the range.

                              100 9mm
                              100 .22LR
                              25-50 38 special

Shot for about 2 hours continuous per trip to the range.
