    Hodge Road???

So I heard today that hodge road doesn't allow rifle or pistol shooting anymore, only shotgun. Does anyone else have any insight or info on this.

    Thanks

All BLM locations in socal have been closed to shooting since due to "fire restrictions." BS because I'm having a hard time finding places to shoot.

            Like...where?
            BLM :all closed
National Forests : all closed to shooting(all on a "daily basis", but the reason is the same: fire)

So that leaves private ranges, or private land.

LOL. So the point is, you got to be "in the know" or have a special hookup to shoot someplace(legally?).

BLM land is open all over and north of Barstow. No fire restrictions there. Shooter's paradise.

Every time I'm shooting up in the San Berdo desert, it reminds me of what Pvt. Bunny once said in the movie "Platoon:"
"Man I kinda like it here. Ya get to do what you want....nobody f&@$ wit you"

I think his point was to get off the internet, drive out there with a map, and find your very own shooting spot. Thats how many of us did it. It took time and effort, so no, we are not just gonna post it on the internet for others. The secret to preserving a good spot is to keep it secret.

Yup agreed. Just like I'm sure half the folks here put out vague and/or bogus directions on where they spotted a "monster buck" on a mountain slope somewhere.

So the OP is correct and it's closed for rifle/pistol?

And what difference does it make whether you go to Hodge Road or drive around and find a secret spot? If it's BLM, you can't legally shoot there right now.

If you look at the map of the BLM shooting areas hodge rd has been shotgun only for a long time. I still shoot rifles and pistols out there but I go pretty far out and make sure I have a good backstop to shoot into. I've never been bothered but that not to say they aren't enforcing it now.

This was my point. There is only public land, and private land. If its public, its closed right now(but trailerparktrash seems to be right that the barstow field office is open. Only a 2 hour drive for me )

Everywhere in red is closed to shooting on public land. If someones "private spot" is in the red area, they are shooting illegally, unless they are shooting on private land with permission.

Additionally, the palms springs field office has closed all shooting as well. So riv county all the way to the state line is effectively also red.
It appears that the El Centro office has closed most BLM land to shooting as well
Due to high fire danger, wildlife management, safety concerns, and litter problems, several areas managed by the El Centro Field Office are closed to target shooting. These areas include:

                            Airport Mesa, Jacumba (CFR 8365.1-6)
                            Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area
                            McCain Valley
                            Table Mountain
Jacumba Ouststanding Natural Area (CFR 8365.1-6)
So only barstow and Needles appear to have the normal restrictions. For me, I may as well drive to AZ to shoot.

Take the 395 north of the 58. I'm in the IE, its about an 80 mile drive to my shooting spot. Never see anybody out there.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
