Anyone know if there is a way to file either the defend or the top of the bar it self to not have it stick up at all?

I thought I remember reading some where if you take it off or trim the under hook the gun won't fire.. This true or no?

There is no mechanical link between Shield's LCI to the firing mechanism. You can remove it and the gun will function just fine, just leave a ugly void on top of the slide.

You can trim down the hook so it does not raise. I only trim down enough so the LCI won't block the sight picture.

I did the same on mine only grinded it down about 50% so it would not stick up as much as before, Now its no longer in the sight picture. You can grind it all the way down with no issues that im aware off.

now send some photos to Smith and Wesson and show them how to correct their error.

You can't identify your target in pitch black either so you are going to need some light. Relying on an LCI to determine if your gun is loaded isn't the smartest idea IMHO.

If you don't know how to press check in the dark, you need more training. None of my other firearms has LCI and I have learned not have to depend on it.

OTOH, your scenario does not concern me. All my ready for use firearms are condition one and check every night before going to bed.
