The 2nd weekend in a row it hasn't been open. Website says it open and not one of the black out days. What gives??

Maybe because the Gutierrez Quinceanera is still going on.

I drove up to the top. Parking lots empty and no one around.

Someone at a raceway event heard a nearby ricochet and they closed the range pending an investigation on if/how rounds were leaving the shooting area.

The range has been there more years then I can remember and not one incident. Kinds sounds like someone's just trying to close it down and maybe they succeed 😢

Yeah, somebody directing traffic at a recent miata race event "thought they heard a bullet whiz by their head" and a few others nearby said they thought they might have heard it too.

They shut down the range immediately, did a search of the area, found one or more spent bullets laying on the roadway, so the shutdown is indefinite until the NRA sends some people over to help investigate and see if there's a way to prevent strays from leaving the range area.

So L.S. could be down for a couple months, possibly longer.

For somebody at the public or police range to send a bullet over the hills that act as a backstop there, and into the raceway areas, it would have to be intentional and very stupid. You'd have to aim way high to clear the hilltops and they'd drop in like mortar rounds on the other side.

Did the spent bullets look like this?

That gong halfway up the hillside might be the problem.

Possibly, yes. You'd still have to a real idiot to overshoot that plate enough to clear the hill. I don't understand how anybody could do that by accident. It would be a shame if they had to take out those new plates. Place was getting kinda boring with just the one at 300.

My patent attorney published a newsletter where he mentioned some homeowners somewhere near a range complaining about bullets hitting their roof and showing complete cartridges to the sheriff as proof.

I need to get a cite for that.

Nobody heard or saw bullets from the range. The range shoots East to West. Richochets will generally go North or South. Like people in the line of an airport approach that's been active for decades, a few people who live close by don't like the noise of the range or raceway. They will say or do ANYTHING to get their way............period. All they have to do is pick up a chunk of a lead wheel weight and say it's a bullet from the range.
