Need recommendation for basic gun training near Orange, CA

I convinced a friend to purchase a handgun and she asked me where she should go for newbie handgun training. I really don't know where to send her. Money is not an issue for her. She lives in the city of Orange. She is in her late 40's and spunky. Thank you for any referrals.

Field time and I think on target offer training.

Can't speak of quality, but I know they offer some.

I have never taken a class from Greg Block but his creds are quite amazing. He does a lot of LE training.

      Located in HB. http://firearmstraining.com/

I plan on taking a revolver class from him someday.

If you guys/gals can comment about the quality of the training it would be great. I kind of hate to recommend something not knowing if it was a good experience. Then again for an initial intro class it may not matter much, but I would rather link her up with someone that she can also take a more advance class afterwards.

One of the CCW training classes seems to put the students through some decent amount of training. I was wondering if maybe that may be a good way to get her feet wet and at the same time knock out the training requirement for a CCW permit.

            Firearms Training Associates

Don't try and do a 2 for one deal. If she's new to shooting, then she should start off with a basic class. Then move on to a CCW class.

FTA, or Firearms Training Associates. They teach classes out of Rahauges. Google them, they are legit. I took their basic handgun class so I can be certified to get a Garand from CMP. The class is for new shooters. It was taught by a couple people from OC sheriff, a school teacher, and a guy who is head of security for one of our local pro sports teams (he wasn't allowed to say which team). They were really thorough about teaching safety, muzzle awareness, 4 basic rules. It was a full 8 hour day of training that included lunch. Most of day was in a classroom. While about 30-40% was hands on at the firing range. At the end of the class they covered cleaning your handguns so you leave with your gun cleaned. Also at the end, they give you a certificate of completion, and you are now eligible for a CCW, which they give you for a few more dollars. The permit is good for I think about most states other than California. I used my certificate to get a CMP Garand. I think it also helps for a hunting license. There were all types of people from all age groups. And, the instructors were informative, and they made the class fun.
                100% deplorable

The NRA has an excellent womens shooting program. Are either of you NRA members? If not you should be.

Two of my wife's female employees did the training at FT3 (Field Time Target and Training) and loved it. One of the girls had some shooting experience, but no formal training. The other girl had no shooting experience at all. Both loved the one-on-one experience.

The staff at FT3 are really great and always willing to help new shooters. I watched one of their ROs help a girl last night that was so terrified she came in the range (firing line) with the guys she was with, but went back out within a couple of minutes. The RO talked with her, went back in with her, sat and talked with her in the firing line area, and got her so comfortable she actually wound up shooting and seemed to enjoy it.

There are also monthly Calguns shoots where they usually have the Calgunner in Training program with really great people. There is also the Women on Target program.
