The springs won't "wear out" from being compressed inside your loaded magazine, and in any case, magazines are cheap to replace. Certainly cheaper than plastic surgery which you'll have to pay for when that violent criminal kick in your door and stabs you in the face with a rusted screw driver.

    Keep your magazines loaded.

The idea that keeping a magazine loaded will damage the spring is complete and total BS and the people who tell you that it will damage the spring are completely ignorant on the subject. Keep your mags loaded and rest easy.

And if springs degrade when stored in the compressed state, why aren't you worried about all the springs in your weapons that are in a compressed state when the weapon is assembled and ready to use?

Take a coat hanger and(one of the metal wire ones). Straighten it all out, then bend it into a 90 degree angle. As it sits right now nothing is "wearing out". As you straighten and rebend in the same spot the metal will become fatigued and weaken itself becoming less tension resistent and eventually damaged(snap). Like others said a spring only wears during the non static states. Fully compressed or fully extended has no impact on the spring. The only time you have to worry about static state damage is when a sproIng is over compressed or extended.

Best advice on here, I'll have to show my wife and tell her the internet said I have to buy another gun! No more argument.

Thanks everyone, I'll load them up and keep them ready to go.

From that list, hide the AR and 1911, the XD9 is the burner gun. Keep it loaded.

People keep their pump action shotguns loaded and the magazine tube spring seems to work fine. Rifles and pistols should be fine too.

id keep the AR in the mix, chances are it'll never be shot in defense, but should that day come, it would be nice to have ready rather than having to rely on a side arm

But, I like a shotgun being close by. I have my Mossberg next to the bed with a flashlight on it.

I was going to do that but I didn't want any wear and tear on my jack and jack stands.
