Put it in a case and lock it for the required 240 hour stay if you're that worried.

Most FFLs won't let you do that. They have to have access to the gun in case of a DOJ audit.

How is this FUD? The OP is reporting what he was told by two separate employees. If it is incorrect, then it is FUD by the gun store, not the OP.

I would highly recommend you contact the manager and/or owner to get what they say about the Fees. Most shops hire min. wage employees that in a lot of cases do not know which end the bullet comes out of.

I bet that the employees do not know a PPT transfer from GunBroker or the such, which the PPT fee limit does not apply, is different than a in person PPT.

If I had a penny for every time a min. wage employee of a business said or did something that was incorrect or against store policy I would own 100% of Apple, IBM and Microsoft.

So, I went to The Gun Range off of Watt ave in Sacramento to do a PPT with a fellow Calgunner. I showed up a half hour early to peruse as I've never been to this shop. Walk in, browse around, and am asked if I needed help. Told the gentleman "no, just waiting to do a PPT with an individual". I then asked how much they charge and he stated 50.00!?! Shortly after I asked another employee the same question and received the same answer. When I asked for a breakdown of the fees, he couldn't recall.

Not only is this debatably illegal, its a bad business model in an industry that requires return customers. Capitalism is a two way street, I walked out and won't return.

Was it the Rambo wanna be with the 20" blade tucked in the back of his pants? He's the only new face I've seen in there recently.

+1 to new employees not knowing. I've had good experiences with their more experienced people.

Sure, but FUD nonetheless. Newbie employees gave bad information, unfortunately, and OP took it as fact (not that he had any reason to believe otherwise as employee should know). I'm not saying it's OP's fault. Bad/incorrect information being spread, is my point.

To clarify everything, I am one of the managers I do sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding. PPT fees are $35(25 dros +10 for transfer) FFL fees $50(25dros+ 25transfer). We do have a lot of new faces here at the range and are working with all of them to get them to speed.
