LEO migrating back to 9mm ?

LASD went to a 9mm nearly three decades ago. That's an old story and its nothing new. About 14 years ago, they authorized the .45ACP as an optional carry round. Deputies can choose between a 9mm or .45 ACP.sigpic

The other day, I noticed that one of my clients had an M&P duty gun rather than whatever steel (as far as I recall) gun he always had before. He is LA Sheriffs. He said he likes the new gun but is getting used to the different trigger. He thinks the different backstraps available for it were one of the reasons the department chose it. I like the looks of the M&P. I thought his was 40 cal, but it may very well have been 9mm.
His knife collection is something else. He gets all the fun toys. We just get to sharpen them. From what our client has said, LA Sheriffs tries to stay on top of equipment and training, at least for the specialized parts of the force. It sounds like his group is prepared for movie/tv type scenarios and they train to be able to handle anything thrown at them, or departments in nearby states. It is interesting to hear about their training and some of the custom built vehicles. It seems his firearms are more about business than being a hobby, for him, so we don't dwell on firearm usage all that much when BSing.
9mm has the capacity and lower recoil advantages so I could understand them going for it, with modern ammo. I shoot 40 the most and for competition and I will shoot 9mm and 45 for fun, along with a whole bunch of others. I don't use firearms on a professional level, so I can't say which one is best, if there is even a best.He who dies with the most tools/toys wins

Makes sense to me, I've shot with Leo's that can't shoot well with .40s but get pretty decent groups with 9mm guns but still have to carry the .40 because it's bigger and the what if you have to shoot this guy on pcp BS. You may as well eject the bullets and throw them at the guy if you can't hit your target.Originally posted by ar15barrelsSo you are throwing out 95% of reality to select the 5% of reality where you are actually right?

^^^same here it's amazing how many of them don't take their handgun accuracy seriously. I shot with a LEO that was hitting dirt 10 yards in front of him on the 15 yard range. It was a .40 cal pistol. Modern day 9mm JHP have more than enough stopping power to get the job done. Lastly, as many have stated, how powerful a round is means nothing if you can't consistently hit your target.Comment

My former agency is currently replacing the Gen3 G22's with Gen4 G22's. I don't think they will be switching to 9mm, and it's a large agency. The agency has never carried 9mm in it's history as an issue duty weapon.
BTW, in the two shootings I was involved in, there were no rounds that missed.sigpicComment

half of you here are weak and lame that will basically wind up being happy with .22 single shot pistols or single barrel shotguns..

The author said, "one article I read stated about a police department in Sioux Falls, SD," come on Sioux Falls as an example of a massive LEO switch back to 9MM.
I haven't heard of any agencies changing back to 9MM.Comment
