LEO migrating back to 9mm ?

Been hearing a lot of rumors that many/most LE agencies are gravitating back to 9mm from .40 S&W.

    Is this true?

Does that mean that .40 S&W will flood the market?

Is this old news? Havne't seen much chatter about it on CG. Or am I just blind?

Makes sense. A larger caliber is only good if you can manage to hit your target. Probably safer for all of us since the penetration will be less when our houses get riddled with bullets the next time a cop gets spooked by a 12 year old with an airsoft gun.

It's for consolidating calibers in preparation for round-up time when they will be supplied by DHS.

LASO went to M&P 9mm..With modern loads, I don't see why not. And with cheaper ammo, maybe can acually train???

I've it said before - if the CHP switches to a 9mm pistol someday to replace the S&W 4006 they've had forever it seems I think that will be a tipping point here in CA for lots of other agencies to switch to 9mm when they need to replace. Just my opinion.

They are switching because the bean counters have the final say these days.

Some are going from .40 to .45 as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the .40 gets phased out after the rest of the handguns at large agencies reach the end of their life cycles.

How long is the "life cycle" of agency firearms?

There is a trend, but we have seen this before. Years down the road, the 9mm is not an effective round, barrier penetration is lacking. We need a better cartridge. And the cycle starts over again.

                          Shoulda kept the .357s.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

Man I cant even find federal hst 147 anymore. Need to switch to 40 just to find quality ammo.
