If you have a little bit of free time, and like shotgun sports, the San Antonio Gun Club is minutes from downtown SA, between downtown and the airport. Easy cab ride away. They have some of the most beautiful shotgunning facilities in the country, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Its actually surprising how close it is to downtown now that I think about it...

I will definitely second this. Great food, cold beer, friendly staff.

Also remember, handgun OC is not legal in Texas so keep it concealed.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. And I will be sure to STFU in the Alamo, luckily I won't have to worry about my volume since I will be visiting the site on my own. But that's still good info.

I hope you have a great time...I and family visited the Alamo once a year when we lived in TX.

I brought the Alamo thing up as there are plenty of signs advising quiet and respect. That doesn't mean a crying baby is 86'd. One year though, an inebriated gentleman was babbling in a loud voice and refused to leave when requested.

He was escorted outside by two rangers, and you might say he "tripped" a bit on his way to the police car.

Try not to miss La Fogata.

If you're into steak, I'd recommend Bohanan's, especially if you're expensing the meals. Bone-in filet mignon.

That looks awesome. I love a good steak. I'll be sure to make a reservation before I leave. LA fogata looks great as well. Between the food, drinks, and receptions I'll need to go to weight watchers after this trip!

Texans brag: "We try em, and fry em."

One time they executed a guy for arson. Later found out it was faulty wiring. Oops!

The friendly spot. Great beer garden not too far away from the Riverwalk. It is awesome. There is no decent bbq in SA. Schilo's deli is a great german deli by the walk. The Alamo will take up a nice hour. Start venturing toward Austin and the food is off the charts. Have fun and stay cool. Humid is an understatement.

I went to HS in San Antonio. Sadly, most of the best places I remember exist no more. La Fogata is decent.

If you're stuck in downtown, you can always tour the Pearl beer factory. But don't mistakenly drink any.

Old local joke: How do y'all pronounce Pearl without the "P"?

                          An empty can!

Oh and check out the Sunken Gardens if you need to escape the Riverwalk crush but still want to get outside.

Had great BBQ at the County Line Restaurant on the river walk, if you can get to Rudy's BBQ I believe the original is in down town, they have the best secret recipe cream corn and are famous for it, my wife has searched and tried to duplicate it, it's close, but Rudy's is amazing.

But ill admit, I think the Tri Tip we have in Cali is better than any BBQ I've had out of state.

My Brother lives in SA.Rudy's is awesome."We didn't claw our way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables."

If you had a car ,I'd highly recommend the National Museum of the Pacific War about an hour away in Fredericksburg.Formerly the Nimitz museum.Need at least a full day for it though.

Can you toss in a raft and do the river walk without paying for a boat ride?
