Strange. Mine work fine by themselves for pistol shooting. Anything centerfire rifle, I double up with foam plugs and again, no problems.

The Sordins WON'T WORK in a indoor range without backups.

I use the 3M foam inserts with the Sordin's for ALL indoor events.

What makes the Sordins so good is their comfort level.
They are the most comfortable ear gear I have used. And I own dam near every high end piece of ear gear imaginable.

I have yet to wear any ear gear that works for me in a indoor range without doubling up. Period.

I am also uber sensitive to sound and concussion.

        Double up indoors.
        Run good ears outdoors.

          The Sordins are only 19db.

The HL, if they actually seal, aren't that bad.
I have to push them hard against my head to get them to deaden sound.

There's a gap at the bottom rear that can't be adjusted out no matter what I do. Never ran into this with ear muffs before.

I think 22-23 NRR will be fine, if I can find electronic hearin protection that actually seals.

Don't get too caught up on NRR ratings. There isn't really an industry wide standard for those and one company's 18 dB reduction is another company's 25. Try them for yourself before deciding.

I've been wearing the Sordin for many years and they work really well...I do double up with custom fitted plugs for shooting indoors

Regardless of the NRR, if you don't have them correctly fitted to your head/ears, they are going to be less than optimal.

That is the huge advantage of the Sordin, they fit your head and seal around your ears...especially with the gel cups.

I regularly recommend HL Sports to people who choose to go with the lower end electronic muffs. I've given away a couple of sets as gifts and have a pair which are always in my shooting bad.

The HL Sports do have to be adjusted correctly. Mine weren't the first time I used them and I thought they were just trash...I was wrong. You need to extend them down in the wires to fit your head and then shift the muffs around until they seal...I have to move mine forward a bit.

The two largest areas that "leak" sound is the hollow behind your ear/jaw and the arms of your eye protection

I don't think this ^^^ is correct. Check ANSI S3.19-1974.

What is true is that the laboratory conditions used to test NRR are not the end of the story, and there are many real-world factors that can also be involved that affect the actual attenuation you achieve.

Yep that's the spot. Couldn't find an adjustment that worked though

That's my point. Contact some of these company about their testing procedures. There isn't any adherence to one standard that guarantees you're going to be comparing apples to apples.

So - you are saying that these companies are falsifying the NRR test results? If they list an NRR rating, then they are required to comply with the testing requirements.

I have a HL Sport AND MSA Sordins. Both are good, BUT...

I still double up. I don't know of any low-pro ears that are the beat all, end all alone.

I wear sordin's also and really like them, plus they don't get in the way with the rifle stock. I always double up with foamies when shooting indoors, but run just the sordin's outside.

What you need, are custom ear plugs. I got mine for $90 at the 2014 California State Shoot (Trap) event in Kingsburg. Some range have people who will do those, typically shotgun clay shooting ranges where gun mounts are paramount to success and ear muffs can interfere with it.

Check your local clay shooting ranges and see if they have vendors who would come out by appointment and make a set of custom ear plugs for you.
